Kickball365 is proud to present our own breakdown of the WAKA Kickball Founder’s Cup Pool Play Analysis. In this post we’ll discuss Pools E – H. We will be posting the remaining pools over the next few days. However, if you’d like to view the ongoing discussion you can do so here.
Pool E
Wu-Tang Killers- NY Liberty Division (#5)
Gone Nuckin Futz – CA Big Surf Division (#26)
The Monster Cartel – CA Studio Division (#32)
Ginger Balls – CA Neptune Division (#53)Analysis: A higher seed than most would give WTK, but again, no slight to their status as a contender to be in play at the end of the day. But there are 2 very good teams in this pool, and while WTK still holds the status of favorite, don’t count out a rapidly improving Monster Cartel. The Cartel, who is also a favorite to advance, is very much underseeded in FC and will give the New Yorkers one of the better games we will see anywhere in morning pool play. GNF is a repeat visitor to the national stage but is in a little over its head here. The Futzes are still expected to notch a win over FC rookies Ginger Balls from the north, who will certainly enjoy that game way more than the other two.
Pool F
JKI – FL Beach Division (#6)
Los Brew Crew – CA Crown Division (#25)
El Guapo: Peleones Legendarios de Pollo – MO Kansas City Division (#33)
Los Borrachos – CA Tinseltown Division (#52)Analysis: Again, #6 feels way too low for the Floridians in maroon, widely recognized as one of the top sides in the country and with one of the top defenses in existence. A potential semifinal showdown with YBAF (again, assuming no re-seeding) could be a classic. Definitely an easy walk for JKI in pool F. The Brew Crew will likely make it as the second team, but their morning tilt with the Sunshine Staters will be a huge helping of humble pie for a team used to absolutely bullying the local opposition. The infinitely likable Guapos finally make to an FC, and we’ll get our first really great look at them … avoiding their second loss in pool play by giving the keg-riding, party-loving Borrachos their 3rd loss of the pool session.
Pool G
IB- VA Triumph Division (#7)
Hot Box – CA Dogtown Division (#24)
The Blueprint – FL Coastal Division (#34)
Choochamungas – CT Lightning Division (#51)Analysis: An extremely intriguing pool — except for the fact that the Basterds are clearly favorites (if not just a touch overseeds) to go through with 3 Ws en route to a lively competition for end-of-day honors. IBs has folks that have been there and won that and won’t be surprised by anything on tourney day. Can Hot Box represent a Dogtown division that simply doesn’t have the competitive cache of the old Venice Beach tables? Or will the upstarts from that overlooked city in South Florida prove to their Ft. Lauderdale neighbors (and others) that 2 Sunshine State cities deserve a good watch on the national scene? Very tough to pick one of these two as the 2nd squad through, with the slight edge to Blueprints. The Northeasterners aren’t even the top side in their state, and while they’re likely to put a few runs, they are definitely in for the toughest morning of these 4.
Pool H
Fully Loaded – FL Riptide Division (#8)
Pitch, Please! – CA Hollywood Division (#23)
Nothing But Fun – LA Bayou Division (#35)
Scrums Up, Hoes Down – CA Solstice Division (#50)Analysis: The seed fits a bit better for clear Pool H favorite Fully Loaded, and the peanut gallery quickly notes that a dreaded 8/9 matchup with The Situation and a potential 1/8 matchup with fellow Beach denizens the Meatballs could be in FL’s future. But they’ll have a much easier time with what’s in front of them in pool play. They could get an okay game from the Pitches, who certainly have seen their fair share of good competition in Hollywood but have struggled to be equal to the task, often playing second fiddle to the other top-flight SoCal teams. The boys and girls from the bayou will have a great time and look to have a spirited contest with the Scrums — and that could actually be a close contest for third place. We’ll take the budding dynasty out of the Gulf Coast in a bit of an upset pick here for the bronze and perhaps an outside shot at silver.
