“A few of us had gotten together, and the talk had shifted to how there were few organized sports available for adults in the area,” he said. “Then we got to talking about the sports we used to love as kids, like tether ball and dodge ball. I don’t remember who brought up kickball, but all of the sudden, someone said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great to have an adult kickball league?’ ”
That was just a few months ago, and, already, the league has wrapped its first season and are in the midst of its second season, which started in September.
Hornbuckle and Keith Sims, a local business owner and one of the league’s organizers, said the kickball games offer participants a chance to network. For professionals, this is part of the league’s appeal.
Heath Holden, in outside sales for Books-A-Million, said kickball has offered him the opportunity to make new friends and develop potential business contacts.
