#1 Gym Class All Stars (7-0) - No surprise here. This is one of the best GCAS teams ever put together, and they're poised to cruise to their 12th straight Monument Cup title.

#2 Recess All Stars(6-1) - A decently talented team who benefited greatly from a very weak schedule. They've got some game, but also lots of holes. It should be interesting to see how far they get.

#3 Playground Menaces (5-2) - The odds-on favorite to make it to the finals on their side of the bracket. They have a solid enough offense and defense to beat any team in the division not named "GCAS."

#4 Mo' Tussin (5-2) - Quite probably the 2nd best team in the division talent-wise, MT is in the unfortunate position of being on the GCAS side of the bracket. It will be a very tall task for MT to get past The Others, er, GCAS, and into the finals.

#5 Refractory Period (5-2) - This team put up a good showing this season record-wise, but they got schooled by the likes of GCAS and PM (their only 2 losses). They'll definitely need to step up their game if they want to go deep in this tournament.

#6 99 Problems but a Pitch Ain't One (5-2) - I didn't get a chance to see this team play, so we'll see what they've got soon enough.

#7 Play With Me (4-2-1) - PWM had an issue getting people to show up this season, otherwise they'd be much higher on this list. This is definitely not a team to sleep on, and has a good chance to upset some teams ahead of them.

#8 Looking to Score (5-3) - This team is in one of the worst positions to be in if they were counting on a long tournament. It'll be a tough task just getting past their 1st round opponent.

#9 Kicking Under the Influence (3-3-1) - I'm clueless how this team is only 3-3-1. Having seen them play and practice, they looked like a very solid team that should easily have been in the top 5.

#10 Three Way (3-4) - These guys have some talent to work with, so not all hope is lost. They could surprise a team or two on Sunday, but they could also be 1-and-done.

#11 Rum Runners (2-3-2) - Just like their name sounds, this team is hear to have a good time. They'll likely make a brief appearance at the field, and a long appearance at the bar.

#12 Your Mom (3-4) - Another team I didn't see, but I don't believe they beat anybody of note. Should be a short day for them.

#13 Drinkers with a Kicking Problem (1-6) - One win is not much to get excited about, but in their defense they did have one of the tougher schedules in the division. That doesn't mean they are likely to get their 2nd win, though.

#14 Gran Columbia (1-6) - Only 8 runs scored during the regular season. They might allow that many in the first inning this week.

#15 Returning Peace Corps Volunteers (0-7) - This team has been known to not even bother showing up, and this week I don't think it matters. Either way they'll have plenty of free time in the afternoon.

#16 Fighting Bisons (0-7) - Yes, the Forfeiting Bisons still got an invite to the playoffs. I'm not sure if they ever got 4 guys and 4 girls to a single game this season. The over/under on innings played in their game against GCAS is set at 1.

Looking forward to a possible semifinal Mo' Tussin matchup. I unfortunately missed the regular season game.

It might not be much to look forward to. We're looking pretty light.

I'd hate to be the head ref for the Mo' Tussin vs GCAS game. Looks like a lot of arguing might happen.

I don't think you guys have much to worry about. We'll be thin, and I didn't see any other team in the division that could possibly match up with you guys.

Congrats to GCAS on their 12th consecutive Monument title. If you weren't there 1) shame on you, and 2) you missed possibly the most epic semifinal game in history as GCAS had all they could handle with Mo' Tussin. In the end, GCAS came away with a 1-0 win in 9 innings. I don't know if 2 defenses have been that on in the 2-bounce era. MT had most of the offensive chances, but couldn't get it done, while GCAS took full advantage of a brief moment of confusion and a friendly bounce to push across the winning run.

Just so everyone knows, 9 inning games in 90+ degree weather is not as enjoyable as you might imagine.

Ha. Way to completely undersell yourselves. I didn't realize that thirteen (and possible fifteen) people and having one of the best pitchers around was considered 'pretty light.'

That being said, it was a pretty ridiculous game and is easily in the top five games that I've ever played. I think that there have only been three nine-inning games in Monument Cup history - in addition to yesterday's ridiculousness, there was a random quarterfinal that went 9 and I believe that the final of MC VI might have also gone nine (it was one of many one-run Gym Class - Team Trojan tourney games).

Amazingly enough, I don't feel too bad (arm is still attached to my body), but then again, I'm old enough for the two-day rule to take effect... so I'll feel like donkey poo tomorrow.

In all fairness to underselling ourselves, we didn't know our pitcher was going to make it to the game until the day of. We were actually pretty sure he was going to miss it because of a flag football tournament. Also, our best kicker Tim is not really the let-people-know-he's-coming type, so we didn't know he was playing until he showed up at the field.

I really wish Swaisgood, Kellen, and Jenica could have stuck around for our game, then you would have seen Extra Strength Tussin. If Trey's 3 amigos had made it out, you would have seen Maximum Strength Tussin. But oh well, I know you guys were missing people, too (most noticeably Jason and Ashley).

Just FYI, we'll be back in the fall... y'all better recruit if you want lucky 13. 8)
