NY Star F11 Week 6 WEMA'AM (Weather, Matchups, & More)

New York City, NY

Postby Manimal » October 25th, 2011, 10:56 am

With Shane having far too many responsibilities - and abandoning his duties to predict the outcome of the week, I have taken over.

Weather
The temperature will be in the low 50's, with a cold wind. Welcome to cold times at the East River Park.

Matchups

8:00 Games
Ball Busters vs The Gramercy Riffs / Refs: tDR/FK
Both teams have been dominated during the season by the top 5. I expect a high scoring game, but I think the Riffs have the better coaching (Maggie), and will pull out a win.
Prediction: Riffs 8, BB 5

NY Shower Hammers vs Our Balls, Your Face / Refs: tDR/SfP
This is OBYF's game of the week ... because it's their only game of the week.
As per Shane, I won't make a prediction on my own team, but I hope the Slam is going to pitch.
He looks very happy when he pitches.

Jellystone Rangers vs Get Your Noodle Wet / Refs: SfP/FK
The Rangers will dominate this game. They have too much experience for GYNW. I expect a blow-out.
Prediction: JR 12, GYNW 2

9:00 Games
The Devil’s Rejects vs Fast Kicks / Refs: OBYF/GYNW
The Rejects will crush FK, but will be slightly drunk from waiting so long. A definite win for the Rejects, but there will be some sloppy Defense.
Prediction: tDR 10, FK 4

Sry For Partying vs NY Shower Hammers / Refs: OBYF/tGR
Game of the week.
NY's top 2 teams are going head-to-head tonight.
The real question with the game will be whether the teams play serious, or continue their light-hearted spirit they've had for the season. If they play like previous years - expect new players on both teams told not to come, or have very little playing time. If this is the scenario,
Prediction: SfP 4, NYSH 3

But, if they play all their players, and they treat the game as they did other games this season, then I expect a pitching duel between Jared and the Slam. This will be a higher scoring game and
Prediction: NYSH 7, SfP 5

But, if one team comes to play, and the other is having fun, then I expect the team having fun to quickly change their game plan, and complain about every call. Hope the refs are ready for these teams :D

Jellystone Rangers vs Ball Busters / Refs: GYNW/tGR
The Rangers will dominate, but will want to get the bar, so I expect them to kick away a lot.
Prediction: JR 8, BB 1

More

Tonight is the Mid-Season Party, so there will be some free beer.
In addition, there is supposed to be a flip-cup tournament. This is going to be a double-elimination format, with teams of 5.

I hope this happens, cause my team is going to win. I've already locked down message board personalities Lost_Sage, Dirty Pirate Heather, and LD. This team is serious about flip-cup, and will destroy the competition.

Quin, it seems you still need a fifth member on that flip cup team... I'd be happy to volunteer for the position

Thanks to Manimal for picking up the slack ... and kicking my own arse into gear. Although, when he gets a full-time teaching position, he can lament about the lack of hours in the day too. Or we'll just start our own K365 podcast, "The Two Professors" ...

At the very least, let's match predictions:

8:00 Games
Ball Busters vs The Gramercy Riffs / Refs: tDR/FK
Manimal: Both teams have been dominated during the season by the top 5. I expect a high scoring game, but I think the Riffs have the better coaching (Maggie), and will pull out a win.
Prediction: Riffs 8, BB 5

Lost_Sage: Was hoping the Riffs would capitalize off of a good showing against S4P last week, and they came up zeroes against OBYF. Meanwhile, the Ball Busters put up a solid 7-spot last week against the Kicks. Quin's prediction goes down! Forest green for the win and the cover!
Ball Busters (-3.5)

NY Shower Hammers vs Our Balls, Your Face / Refs: tDR/SfP
Manimal: This is OBYF's game of the week ... because it's their only game of the week.
As per Shane, I won't make a prediction on my own team, but I hope the Slam is going to pitch.
He looks very happy when he pitches.

Lost_Sage: Is it fair for me to put a line in this game when I'm reffing it? Enh, why not. OBYF has looked very good this year, but the Hammers get a lead early and try like heck to prevent the Pegacorns scoring. Hammers win, but OBYF gives my spread a run for its money. OBYF (+7.5)

Jellystone Rangers vs Get Your Noodle Wet / Refs: SfP/FK
Manimal: The Rangers will dominate this game. They have too much experience for GYNW. I expect a blow-out. Prediction: JR 12, GYNW 2
Lost_Sage: The only thing I predict about this game is that any female reffing GYNW should obtain a restraining order. Oh, and that JR rolls here. JR (-13.5)

9:00 Games
Manimal: The Devil’s Rejects vs Fast Kicks / Refs: OBYF/GYNW
The Rejects will crush FK, but will be slightly drunk from waiting so long. A definite win for the Rejects, but there will be some sloppy Defense.
Prediction: tDR 10, FK 4[/color]
Lost_Sage: I agree with Quin here. Rejects win, but whether it's a walk-over or a tad sloppy depends on the potency of the Devil's Juice Box. Really hoping Kicks can get that statement game, but it will not be against the veteran black shirts. TDR (-9.5)

Sry For Partying vs NY Shower Hammers / Refs: OBYF/tGR
Manimal: Game of the week.
NY's top 2 teams are going head-to-head tonight.
The real question with the game will be whether the teams play serious, or continue their light-hearted spirit they've had for the season. If they play like previous years - expect new players on both teams told not to come, or have very little playing time. If this is the scenario,
Prediction: SfP 4, NYSH 3. But, if they play all their players, and they treat the game as they did other games this season, then I expect a pitching duel between Jared and the Slam. This will be a higher scoring game and Prediction: NYSH 7, SfP 5
But, if one team comes to play, and the other is having fun, then I expect the team having fun to quickly change their game plan, and complain about every call. Hope the refs are ready for these teams.

Lost_Sage: No pick, as this is my game. But I'm thinking both teams really want to see if their newbie folks can overachieve. Rookies have always come up clutch in these Fall Classic slugfests. Someone new to NY Star is going to be the hottest thing on the fantasy kickball waiver wire come Wednesday. Failing that, I would be completely kosher with the rule that Slam pitch all 6 innings and Jared pitch all 6 innings.

Jellystone Rangers vs Ball Busters / Refs: GYNW/tGR
Manimal: The Rangers will dominate, but will want to get the bar, so I expect them to kick away a lot.
Prediction: JR 8, BB 1

Lost_Sage: Rangers in a walk - the Busters may be out of steam by this game. BB (+9.5)

Say your prayers little one
Don't forget my son
To include everyone

I tuck you in, warm within
Keep you free from sin
'Til the slam-man he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land

Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of Snow White

Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon's fire
And of things that will bite, yeah

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land

Now I lay me down to sleep
Now I lay me down to sleep
Pray the lord my soul to keep
Pray the lord my soul to keep

If I die before I wake
If I die before I wake
Pray the lord my soul to take
Pray the lord my soul to take

Hush little baby don't say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
It's just the beasts under your bed
In your closet in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land

Boo! Yeah yeah!

We're off to never-never land
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land
Take my hand

We're off to never-never land
We're off to never-never land
We're off to never-never land

I guess the question is directed at Quin. I think we're pretty easy on the refs compared with most teams in the league.

I don't think you guys argue in games you win 15-0.
If you guys are serious about winning, then in this game - yes.

And I have a feeling your opposition is known to argue (and argue) with refs.

Id like to thank everyone who came out and participated in the flip cup tournament last night to help support the US Military Endowment. I appreciate everyones efforts who helped out: reffing, setting up the tables, and getting the teams signed up. Shout out to the winners Masters of Flip who went undefeated the whole tournament beating TDR in the finals 3-1. Thanks again and I look forward to our next event.

Great job pulling the tourney together Ricky! You and Cyn did a great job.

Also, my team wants credit for last place in the tournament for paying the entry fee and not playing :)

I don't believe I've given up a walk. Last night I had 2 base runners in 2 innings pitched.

Haha, she's tougher than me that for sure.

Don't get me wrong, I know why I've only given up 1 run. I have one of the best defenses in the country backing me up. If I were on another team pitching the same, it would be a different outcome. Although ifacing Jack, Karl, Oakley, and Jay throwing heat and then seeing me throw 5 mph will definitely throw you off your game.

Don't get me wrong, I know why I've only given up 1 run. I have one of the best defenses in the country backing me up. If I were on another team pitching the same, it would be a different outcome. Although ifacing Jack, Karl, Oakley, and Jay throwing heat and then seeing me throw 5 mph will definitely throw you off your game.

you haven't given up a run because you are pitching in NY Star!

Aww, remember when that used to be "where the stars came out!" :eusa-violin: :crying-yellow:
