If tournaments were played on Sunday as oppose to Saturday, it would be easier to get there. DC, New York, and Ft Lauderdale are all at least a 5 hour flight and a 3 hour time change so 8 hours of elapsed time. That means all day flying on Friday or Red Eye on Thursday night. Most East Coast teams travel after work on Friday and can leave at their leisure on Sunday. That's asking a lot to pay $500-800 in travel cost plus whatever the entry fee is plus missing a day or more of work.
NY and FL teams always take off the Friday before a tournament, and both NY and FL typically have to spend $500+ to fly to most of these tournaments.
The real excuse is that West Coast teams aren't nearly as committed to kickball as East Coast teams.
I'll buy the second part, Trey, but not the first. I think you are fudging the numbers and using a bit of hyperbole. I highly doubt it costs $500 to fly to Ft. Lauderdale or New York from Virginia. Not to meniton the other two tournaments you speak of were in drving distance.
I wasn't saying the flight alone costs $500+ but the whole trip. Like Shelander said, it costs $200-300 to fly from FL to Norfolk, DC, or NY plus they have to pay for hotels, travel, and other travel related expenses. Likewise, it costs between $300-400 to fly from Cali to Norfolk, DC, NY, or FL.
Fair enough. I would like to see a Sunday Tournament. It makes things a little more plausible to convince people to go.
