If tournaments were played on Sunday as oppose to Saturday, it would be easier to get there. DC, New York, and Ft Lauderdale are all at least a 5 hour flight and a 3 hour time change so 8 hours of elapsed time. That means all day flying on Friday or Red Eye on Thursday night. Most East Coast teams travel after work on Friday and can leave at their leisure on Sunday. That's asking a lot to pay $500-800 in travel cost plus whatever the entry fee is plus missing a day or more of work.

NY and FL teams always take off the Friday before a tournament, and both NY and FL typically have to spend $500+ to fly to most of these tournaments.

The real excuse is that West Coast teams aren't nearly as committed to kickball as East Coast teams.

I'll buy the second part, Trey, but not the first. I think you are fudging the numbers and using a bit of hyperbole. I highly doubt it costs $500 to fly to Ft. Lauderdale or New York from Virginia. Not to meniton the other two tournaments you speak of were in drving distance.

I wasn't saying the flight alone costs $500+ but the whole trip. Like Shelander said, it costs $200-300 to fly from FL to Norfolk, DC, or NY plus they have to pay for hotels, travel, and other travel related expenses. Likewise, it costs between $300-400 to fly from Cali to Norfolk, DC, NY, or FL.

Fair enough. I would like to see a Sunday Tournament. It makes things a little more plausible to convince people to go.

No, we played Blue Balls in Vegas last year and I have much respect for their team. Trey was on his best behavior. Besides, I am still trying to figure out how we get back to Vegas this year.

Menace to Sobriety out of west palm beach, florida is also in. Couple of us balls deepers play on that team that will be playing with balls deep in vegas though (i didn't pick the name i promise). Menace will be up there in seeding...Not sure if they are taking fall 08 or spring 09 team, but they are both about the same....11-0 (7 reg season, 4 tourney), and b/w 5-8 RA including tourney

True. One player is playing with menace for the pool round and will switch over if Balls deep advances and menace does not.

From WAKA's site,
This is outrageous! Founders Cup 2009 FILLED TO CAPACITY in minutes! Team annoucements and brackets coming soon! Friends and fans are welcome to join the party. You can purchase guest tickets in the WAKA store (Only 200 left!) or check out the volunteer opportunites on the tournament page.

Image

My question:
- How quickly did we get the brackets for last year's Founders Cup?

Wait, so if my team doesn't get in, then do I have to purchase a guest ticket to watch the games? And what if the guest tickets are sold out? We're not supposed to know until September 1st if we got in... Do guest tickets generally sell out?

Well Menace has one balls deep pitcher, one catcher, and both 3rd basemen. With a small lineup of its best players (menace always had bout 12 girls and 12 guys at every game), menace would be decent, but still not quite on the same league as Fla Beach league teams....but menace will be without the balls deep players in vegas (except one)...so you can take that how it is

Last year invites went out July 15th, and the first pools came out August 5th. Pools changed several times, partially cause teams kept dropping out, partially cause WAKA screwed up the rankings (especially for Screw the Team)

TK, they didn't sell out of guest tickets last year, but if you wanna get around it you could voulenteer for something. Wait I thought you were on Tricky Bunnies. In Boston they had them for the after party, but apparently in Vegas WAKA doesn't bother organizing one.

ya their catcher is lil whipped so he has to play with his west palm team....good news for them though is that last years west palm champs made it all the way to the vegas final.....will history repeat itself?.........not a chance in hell!

I'm not going if I can't see the games from inside the beer tent, so they better not sell out if we don't qualify

Guest tickets are for the shuttle, beer tent and other official activities. Anybody can just watch.

I'm not going if I can't see the games from inside the beer tent, so they better not sell out if we don't qualify

a) at least last year you couldn't see the fields from the beer tent
b) beer tent didn't open til after pool play was over
c) there is a gas station across the street, and the WAKA staff didn't appear to car about people drinking. Jerome is the only person who hassled me about my can of Sparks.

What are you talking about; you can watch the games from the hotel. The mountains won’t be blocking you.

No way Jerome.. I need to be on the field, I will move mountains to get to you!

I drank about 100 beers on the field and nobody said a word, nor did they seem to have a problem with the slip-n-slide, stolen golf carts or anything else anybody felt like doing.

You said the start time is moved up? Hmmm. I liked the late day start time.
