You would have been a well rested team playing a gassed situation in semis without any subs

while you were sitting in the shade having a bartles and James game 1 against skittles. Blake was throwing his arm out and getting fatigued from being in the sun.

Having legit subs is great.. but most teams subs wouldn't have been able to hang in pool b

You played 4 tough games out of 7
If nysh had managed to beat Fl that would have been tough game 7 of 7 with all their starters playing each game
There's no way that's fair

If your team is so good and so deep man up and ask for a tougher pool play schedule

I only played 50% of the innings (or less) in our tough games, too. Whether it was a 1-0, 2-0, or 17-0 win, we alternated our starters every inning. We didn't ride our starters into the ground in our two tightly contested games against FV. We made sure our starters were fresh throughout the game. It's not our fault that other teams decided to play their starters every inning of every game. That's just poor management.

In a tournament like last weekends a mid tier team should realize that if they win 2 games they will probably make it in to elimination. Go balls out the first 2 games to get your win and then just rest everyone. That be my game plan if i was in that spot. 2-2,3-1,4-0 are all the same.

Or look at your schedule and figure out where your best chances lie. If you're a mid tier team of course you're going to have a tougher route to the finals, that how a proper seeded bracket plays out, although most of your games should be against similarly skilled teams. It's us bottom dwellers who really have to focus on what's achievable. We may have been the social team but I can tell you the Mo Tussin game was circled on our schedule. Granted, it's not like we sat anyone but we certainly changed our lineup around, and maybe drank a little less. Our goal was to win a game and ruin someones day. We came close on the first half and probably accomplished the second half.

Panik and Meatballs both choose to have huge rosters because that is a good strategy. There is no reason that other teams cant do it. If they dont thats their fault for beating up their position players all morning.

My team has 3-3rd baseman, 3 catchers and 3 pitchers that can be a starter on just about any other team. We have 7 different guys that can bat lead off for any "elite" team. All these guys sacrifice playing time for the better of the team . the # 3 pitcher probably pitches 50% of the innings in the day when #1 and #2 get 25% each. They can go somewhere and play every inning but they choose not to. We built are team like this because this is what it takes to be strong for a tournament. There is more to being the best then just winning the games. What you do off of the field and how you manage is a huge part of the game. We didnt just wake up and have this team. It took 5 years to get to where we are today. And for people to say its not fair thats just dumb. Nothing is stopping you from doing what we did.

Great point, Kim. Each team needs to set realistic expectations and properly gauge their team's ability. It's not reasonable for a team like Team Skittles to beat a team like Panik, so why would they burn out their starters? It is reasonable for them to knock off some of the lower ranked teams in the pool, though. Focus on the games you can win, rest when you can. Your starters might be needed to get you through the first inning, but they might not be needed in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th innings. Give them a rest according to the situation. It's ridiculous to have your starters in for an inning when there are four girls in a row. I don't know how many middle tier teams I've seen do that, but it's definitely a lot.
If I say mean things to you and it hurts your feelings, f#ck you.

Thats what im saying. You planned ahead knowing Mo tussin was the game you needed to go all out for. I feel like people on here are saying they are so tired after pool play its not fair. You dont have to go 4-0 to be in elimination. There was a lot of tournaments in the past that we looked at and said lets win the first 2 games and rest everyone. If we didnt win the first 2 and had to grind it out the rest of pool play then thats our own fault. Not the fault of how the pools were made up.

I believe you were the only team to intentionally walk one of our players. Flying V tried, but realized after the walk that they were looking at the wrong part of our lineup, so we let them take it back. (They ended up walking that batter unintentionally  )

It didn't ruin our day, though. The part of the schedule we circled was "lunch break" since that was the time we could go back to the beach/pool.

I sorta felt bad about it, but only sorta. I think that was after you went up on us and to be honest I was worried if I made the right call because we didn't have your lineup.

Very good point. That's really the one of the core issues at hand is how do we accurately determine a team's proper seeding.

I loved Timberwolf's post. Great suggestions with some good questions to take away for the tourney organizers (if they care, I guess)

When up against a team with 6 guys and 5 girls, odds are pretty good that wherever you are in the lineup, a girl will be coming up soon.

Bloody_knees wrote:Wow...I just made it all the way through this thread and am shocked. I may be new to the circuit part of kickball but I can't believe what some people are saying. I think the teams were ranked as fairly as possible....and minus PA and FL, most teams were about equal on the playing fields. Any of those games could have gone either way. I also agree that FL is #3 right now. They've proved it in tournaments where some of these other teams, BiB included, have not played in the circuit before as a team.

I obviously didn't play in "pool A" but I felt like our pool and match up was really fair. We had some tough games and your team had to prove themselves to get beyond pool play. It really just sounds like a bunch of whining to me. If you're going to complain about the bracketing etc...come up with a better way. But I feel like teams that have already proven themselves in tournaments should not be penalized for being a better team. As some of the guys have said, it takes time to build a team like MB, PA, and FL. Those teams out there that want to compete for those spots aren't complaining about who they had to play this weekend. The only people that seem to be complaining are ones where their team didn't seem to perform as they were hoping.

PS My opinions do not reflect my teams....these are just my personal reflections...and as Trey said...I felt like a girl needed to chime in.

great post

Thanks :)
