I see the kicking average conversation is going on again. After the NYC tournament, I can only assume that the .800 averages are non-existent for most people.

So what were the best kicking averages of the teams in pools A and B?

obviously.

this was the first tournament that there weren't many easy games, so averages may mean a little something.

Can someone do a breakdown of the scores? I know in DC people seemed to blame the turf for the low scores, but NYC had all turf and it seems the scores were significantly higher.

From what I understand, the wind had a lot to do with many of the absurd scores.

Yes, for the fields in the 70s. On Field 83 there was only a little wind - rather pleasant actually (I had a conversation with Fro about it, in fact), and it was only from like 1:30 to 3:30 or something...not all day. Don't know about Field 10, but the way it was shaded I'd guess it wasn't very windy.

Thus, I think the wind can only be blamed on a portion of the games, but significantly blamed in those games.

I would bet that those few games accounted for about 1/4 or more of the runs on the day.

I counted 182 runs scored in 14 games on the 70s fields (10.7 rpg).

Edit: Actually, those windy fields accounted for 46% of the runs despite only 16% of the games being played there.

I think I had the highest average for the day on Poison iV, but that is not saying much as we struggled offensively all day. Our defense was top notch and what moved us along in the elimination rounds. It took a couple of games to get things going, but isn't that always the case with an availables team. It was weird bc Flying V's strength is offense and I feel like our team could of put up some HUGE numbers at NYC. Our team breakdown was:

Flying V: two guys (Brick and I)
ViDF: one guy (Bundy)
iB: 6 guys (Roy, Pdunc, Ryan, Jordon, Troy, Pat)
JFK (Wes and Nikki)
not sure what teams our other 3 girls were on previously

I had a blast playing with these guys and gals. Brick and I learned a lot of good strategy and we are crazy excited about our team for Vegas. I know our defense needs some adjustments and work, but I feel we could have the best offensive team down in Vegas. Huge props to NYSH and of course Panik. NYSH had a blast out there and really played well. Flying V will have something to rival your pregame festivities in Vegas! We enjoyed.

I'm not sure how much I give to the "wind" argument. For every field the wind is blowing out boosting scores, there's another field with wind blowing in keeping scoring low. It was just as windy on field 83 as it was on 73. Maybe not so much wind on field 10? (but I was only there to turn in the waivers.)

Could the quality of teams have had anything to do with it? Were scores lowest on the fields with the highest (best defenses) and lowest (worst offenses) tiers, and the highest scores being in the middle (good talent with some holes on defense) tier fields?

There were some times were the wind was blowing out. JC from Panik kicked an absolute bomb in the final 4 game against The Situation.

I know on 73 the wind carried a lot and hurt the pitching a lot. But I agree with Jelly, it balanced out on the opposite side. the wind coming under the bridge off the river on 73 was nice though as it cooled things down a good amount. One of the guys on J Cru kicked a ball to center that burned our outfielder by like 50 feet. It was NUTS.

Joe, it was nice meeting you finally. Glad you enjoyed our pregame show. We try and have a little fun while being competitive. I know it wasn't your guys natural team but y'all play hard and aggressive. It was a very fun game.

You are right about JC's kick. That was a fuckin bomb. I thought there was no way that anyone could kick a ball onto our field from how far away their plate was.

I did our averages yesterday and yes I think .800 is pretty unattainable, but we had 3 guys kick between .677-.750.

averages are a little deceiving, it doesn't really tell the whole story. The top of lineup gets up around 10-15 times for the tournament. So one out can drop your average significantly.

Our top averages were .777, .727 and .636.

Sorry, lied. Billy had a "bad tournament" and went 8-10 with a walk. Charlie was 6-8.

Yes, you were 3-6 with a walk and a sac.
