With so many evenly matched teams, money on the line, and the margin of error razor thin, there needs to be some discreation, understanding, common sense applied to the rules. I certainly do not begrudge Jared for appealling the play, but I begrudge the fact that the umpire asserted himself into several calls that were close, but not others that were equally close.
I don't know about most people, but I play for the compeition the game brings and to take away from the competition by trying to make a hero of yourself is just no fun for anybody. LIU feels cheaper for the win the deserved and we feel cheated for a loss we deserved. The part that really sucks is to have that opportunity stripped from you in the heat of the moment.
I posted this on another thread but it looks like it fits here better.
Guiz- not sure if this call was made on you or not but I wanted to make a point that a similar call was made by the same ref during our sweet 16 game during FC. While rounding 3rd our player was involved in a CLOSE play at the plate where I was 75% sure they got under the tag. That next inning JPW explained the reason he called that player out was not b/c he was out at home but b/c he missed 3rd base. At that moment I completely agreed with the call. I knew he was right b/c that runner was me and I did barely miss 3rd. This should show you that this is something JPW is always aware of and most likely made an accurate call. I've always had good games called and discussions with JPW.
