lightsout wrote:Here's the problem with the call, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth for an otherwise great day of kickball between great competitors. We lost becuase we made too many mistakes. We had much less fun because the ref felt he needed to assert himself in a situation he didn't need to.

With so many evenly matched teams, money on the line, and the margin of error razor thin, there needs to be some discreation, understanding, common sense applied to the rules. I certainly do not begrudge Jared for appealling the play, but I begrudge the fact that the umpire asserted himself into several calls that were close, but not others that were equally close.

I don't know about most people, but I play for the compeition the game brings and to take away from the competition by trying to make a hero of yourself is just no fun for anybody. LIU feels cheaper for the win the deserved and we feel cheated for a loss we deserved. The part that really sucks is to have that opportunity stripped from you in the heat of the moment.

I posted this on another thread but it looks like it fits here better.

Guiz- not sure if this call was made on you or not but I wanted to make a point that a similar call was made by the same ref during our sweet 16 game during FC. While rounding 3rd our player was involved in a CLOSE play at the plate where I was 75% sure they got under the tag. That next inning JPW explained the reason he called that player out was not b/c he was out at home but b/c he missed 3rd base. At that moment I completely agreed with the call. I knew he was right b/c that runner was me and I did barely miss 3rd. This should show you that this is something JPW is always aware of and most likely made an accurate call. I've always had good games called and discussions with JPW.

***After reading about the visibility issue this might not totally put it to rest but it should provide some credibility.

Yeah, brick really not the same thing. The ball was in centerfield. No advantage could have possibly been gained.

Your argument is just bad based on the simple fact that you let Jared get to third base.. any team that allows that clearly is not very good

I played two days, 15 games (I think), kicked (or rather bunted) in the 3 spot again, and only got out twice all weekend from what I remember. I had the highest OB% on the team. I went 1st to 3rd three times and I was over halfway to 3rd by the time the 1B got the ball at 1st every time. Nobody ever even attempted a throw on me. I'm considerably faster than I was a month ago, and I still have probably 10-15 lbs of fat to lose before I peak.

you will see many outrageous gains in a short time. You will peak after a year or so and then you will have to work hard for new PRs.

Ya, I was your guys' ump on that field all morning and I just had to trust where the base was. There was one play, I think it was WR vs Army of Darkness, where a girl made a force out at 3rd but fell to make the catch and the coaches at 3rd screamed she was off the base. All I could tell was that she had her feet planted well in advance and didn't pick them up until after the ball was caught. I had to trust my judgement not a team that's obviously bias. Shane's probably the only person I would trust not to lie but even then I have to go by what I saw.

Hollywood B wrote:Its just dumb. Refs need to be absolutely CERTAIN that they saw a miss to make a call like that.

Absolutely! Obviously things get missed and when I think I legitimately missed something I feel like shit but if I didn't see it with my own eyes I'm not going to call it. I tell the team "I didn't see that. I will make sure to pay close attention from now on." And then I do whatever I have to (ie better positioning, adjust cones or bases).

From field 7 I definitely saw the runner stutter step like he was shortening his stride to hit 3b.

I remember that play. I was the catcher that threw the ball to Rachel to get the force out. Aaron (Whiskey Richard Player) was clearly out. Rachel's foot was clearly on the plate when Aaron slid. He knocked her down but she held onto the ball. WR just likes to argue when a call doesn't go their way.

Eh, they didn't really argue it for more than a few seconds.

The call I made on your step over the plate foul ball was probably wrong but you guys were super cool about it. It was cool meeting Tweasy and the other guy with a goatee, what was his name? I think you got on after that so I felt relieved.

None of us could see the base from the sideline either. We only yelled about it because she fell away and it looked like she might have been off, so we wanted to make sure it was in the refs mind. Same as when a bobble happens... sometimes the ref doesn't realize it right away and needs a little reminder.

Either way it was a pretty close game that had a lot on the line. Both teams 0-2, needing the win to move on.

Scoreless until the bottom of the 4th, when AOD scored off of an error throw, then WR came back in the top of the 5th and scored 2. Which was enough to sneak out the 2-1 victory.

Jared - am uber late on this (haven't been on the boards much, if at all the last six weeks). Believe my best is 13 rounds. I'm just getting back CF'ing in the last week and look forward to a PR in January. Hopefully, the 100 burpee pull-ups tonight won't be too tough.
