Getting to know Catch-22...

Catch-22 wrote:How is the Situation not being brought up as an argumentative team? They're all good guys and play hard. But I've played them three times, and they've caused five+ minute delays arguing some call with the refs in every one of those games.

Situation is one of those teams that I've heard about them being like that, but haven't personally seen it in action. Same thing with Frosty Balls.

It's complicated. It kind of took a mind of its own.

My take on it is that just a bunch of things were in play that came to a head:

1) Because of some personal commitments (graduating from law school and a wedding in Brazil), my brother and I can't play in the Virginia Beach or Vegas tournaments. As a result, OSC didn't want to use up two slots on their WAKA Sunday league roster for two people who couldn't go to Vegas anyway. Without a league to play in and with the limited amount of tourneys, my brother was considering taking the year off. There was talk of me putting together a "fun" OSC team in DC Capital but with me studying for the bar exam this summer, I didn't want to commit to anything like that. iB was already playing in DC Capital on Thursdays. I had played with a lot of the iB guys before on MBA and in Florida with M2S, and they are a great group. My girlfriend plays for iB. It just made sense from an enjoyment perspective to jump on with them.

2) Meanwhile, I think Troy wanted a change of scene. He switched over to iB. pDunc wanted to play with Troy, Brian, and me, so he switched. Michele and pDunc are dating, so Michele switched.

3) Jordan's three closest friends on OSC, (Lloyd, Jason, and Parker) all retired unexpectedly, so then Jordan switched, since he has played on MBA for awhile and is friends with all the iB people too.

4) In the end, I think the group that played down in South Florida together as M2S just had a really good time and liked the idea of still playing together. We'll see how it works out. It's a bummer about OSC, but I'm looking forward to this upcoming season.

The OSC guys were obviously disappointed with how it played out, since we really had put together a great squad last year that was only going to get better. But a team that can kick 15 or 16 guys means a lot of people don't get to play as much as they'd like, and I think some people thought their time would be better spent elsewhere. But the OSC guys have handled the moves very well, very maturely. We're all still friends. This kind of stuff happens. People shift around on teams.

You can still play while studying for the bar...and in fact will want to...its a nice little break, trust me

Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, I'm still going to play, but I didn't want to commit to captain a team when I don't know how hectic my schedule will be.

At this level, I think everyone complains a lot. Tempers flare and whatnot. For what it's worth, I think most of the Meatballs seem okay. The nicest ones, DP Corey and Flades, were imported but they seem to get along with the rest of you just fine. The Shelander-story is one of the funniest I'd heard in awhile. What else... Jimmybeans grabs too many dude-crotches and Mrs. beans twists too many nipples. Chaz yelled at me once when I was trying to calm down a teammate of mine that was arguing with him. That was a little weird.

I think sprinting off the field is okay as long as you don't wuss out on the wedgie-giving.

Yeah it is what it is.I actually dont think the complaining is that bad overall compared to playing some shit teams. I just hate when games are being delayed and the people delaying them have no clue what they are even arguing about. The reason this argue thing has been being posted all day is cause catch 22 called us out for it. But he has been asked to name a time we did it against him and has yet to say when.

Are you saying you guys don't argue calls?

I second, third, fourth, and one-thousand-seven-hundred-sixty-ninth this. This is exactly how I got into kickball.

Driving up to SF two nights a week after bar review class (at Stanford; I moved back to the Peninsula after law school was over to concentrate, and because I was selling my place in SF) was going to be my break from the wretchedness of studying, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Throughout those two months, I managed to:

(a) get randomly placed on Thursday in Golden Gate on the defending league champs (and fit in just fine, going all the way to the finals)
(b) be a founding member/newsletter editor/head ref/de facto president/creator of league trophy from scratch of Gold Rush (yeah, always had that do-absolutely-everything-for-the league trait from the start)
(c) also help my team of mostly randoms reach the finals as a 6 seed

And here we are, six years later ... :hai:

If I can do all that while taking (and passing), hands down, the toughest bar exam in the country (California), I think you'll be just fine.

Same here. I started playing in Tampa on Thursdays when I was studying for the bar in St. Pete (at Stetson). It was crazy when I moved to Fort Lauderdale after the bar and realized people bunted and pitched overhand.

And I can still take 1/2 the credit! haha

Seriously, I like any interview I do to get a lot of replies/views, it means conversation is flowing.

This thread is absolutely ridiculous. It should be binded into its own book. So many different tangents with various chime-ins, and is really just a train wreck.

I started reading it casually at about the 8 minute mark of the first half of this Florida-BYU game and am just finishing it now as Jimmer takes his final curtain call in OT.

Only when the call is wrong. And its more of saying something like"c'mon ump thats a terrible call". Hardly ever make game delaying arguments.

I've never seen the Meatballs delay a game to argue a call. I have seen them jump around like monkeys and throw poo when they disagree with a call, though.
