Start thinking about which night you would want a spring circuit league in VA Beach....

If we were able to get 13 teams for VBKO, then we can get this league going. I think the timing was off with the initial attempt. Alot of teams already signed up in other leagues plus the Sunday + NFL conflict. This should definitely work for the Spring as long as it isn't on a Wednesday night.

Thursday, seconded!

I really think Sunday was the deterrent to this league. I struggled to get commitments from people that really wanted to play because the time didn't work. Right now, there are no leagues that compete with Thursday as the top two leagues in the area are Wednesday WAKA on the peninsula and Friday WAAR in Chesapeake.

Thursday Shore/Southside was the SOuthside kickball night when I started a few years back. I think we'll do best to get that night rolling again.

Thursday is the WAAR night on the Peninsula. Most of the competitive players that play Wednesday night play Thursday night in York county. Isn't Tuesday night KLOHR? That pretty much leaves Monday night.

I think that "competitive players" would much rather travel to a competitive league on Thursday night if given the option. If they live closer to York, the chances are slim they are coming over to VB on a weeknight anyways.

I don't think we need to find the only free night, more like which night gives us a good chance to get the most players. I think Thursday is that night without a doubt. We have to start somewhere.

I just really think unless you can get players from both sides of the water to commit you are going to end up with Sitch, Panik, Foot Snipers. If the 3 of our teams all split and put 2 teams each in this league, then we have a chance to have successful season. Hopefully it works, I just want to give this the best chance at succeeding.

One thing I do know is if people keep procrastinating and not registering than this has 0% chance of succeeding. When this league is announced and posted team captains need to get on it, register early, and hound players until they register themselves.

I think as long as we're not competing with the Wednesday night Peninsula league, we'll get the necessary players to play in the league. I've said from day 1 that I will be branching out to put a 4th team into this league to help it get off the ground. At that point, if we can get 2 peninsula teams to sign ups, 6 teams is a good start.

We're not going to get everyone to play in season 1, we just need to get a good night where players are willing to play and go out and support it. If I remember correctly, there was a good Peninsula showing in the Shore/Southside leagues, which was also on Thursday night.

Getting commitments, especially from women, for a Sunday league in the fall was very difficult. I really think that was a big reason for the lack of signups. Additionally, I had a full roster ready to go, but when other captains haven't even registered a team by that time, it's hard to convince your players to sign up anyways.

The thursday WAAR league in Yorktown only runs in the summer. Their fall/spring league is on Friday nights.

Not that it matters, for reasons mr. coup so eloquently stated.

That's good info. I'd prefer Thursday nights.

I think labeling this the "competitive league" might not be the best marketing strategy if we are going to get this off the ground.

While we might get better competition in the league, it's also kickball at it's purest, and good preparation for travel ball. It can have a good social atmosphere without being a sanctum for underachievers to feel good about themselves.

Good point. I don't think we need to market it as a "competitive only" league. I'm merely stating that we're more likely to get the competitive player involved, those who travel to play the game.

I don't know, I think you put this league on a weekday night and it's anywhere other then Norfolk, or Chesapeake, Penninsula players aren't going to make the trek. Most of the time, people still think it's crazy that southsiders drive all the way to Hampton to play in the Penninsula league.

I def. think weekends will attract a larger crowd from the other side of the water and without them, you'll really only be resurrecting the Southside league, just modifying the rules and watching it slowly bleed to death over time again.

But I'll support whatever, but I'm out either way if it's anytime during the week other then Friday (which has WAAR) or Monday.

It may also be hard to get people to commit to playing Wed Penninsula, Thurs. Southside, and Friday Chesapeake for some of the players that participate in multiple leagues.

Jimmy's killing dreams again, haha.

Players will have to make decisions. All we can ask is that players try it for a season and go from there. I know if you give me the choice, I'm picking circuit rules every time. Hopefully in the long run most players do the same.

For me, if you travel to play these rules, which we're seeing more and more Hampton Roads teams doing, why wouldn't they try to work on their skills and building a team in a local league?

I do know that getting players to commit to Sunday was nearly impossible. To quote one of my close friends "I don't need help having fun on Sunday, but Thursday night I do." Plus going out of town, etc... I just think it's easier for people to commit to a weeknight.

If i remember correctly Shore had quite a bit of Peninsula people making the trek on Thursday nights too.

I'm just doing what I do, making sure both sides of the coin are considered. I'm obviously basing mine on my opinion and general behavior of people, but putting it back to back with the Penninsula Wed, Circuit thurs is going to be hard. Even for the competative Penninsula Players, in my opinion, 2 nights in a row, one being on the other side of the water, may not appeal to them. And some of the locals may not want to play 3 nights in a row.

I know what I personally would choose were it even a possibility for me, but not everyone shares the same mindset.

You're the only person I've talked with who dislikes Thursdays.

In the end, it's never going to accommodate everyone, but I do know that we tried Sundays and it didn't work.

Peninsula players might be too hung over to play on Thursdays...just sayin'. I do know that I would absolutely not play on the weekend...unless the Atlantic division goes belly up for some reason.

KLOHR has probably the most social rules of all the local leagues. I think that would be the league to compete with out of any of them. I can't see players in that league wanting to play overhand two-bounce ever.

I still think their rules are the most social in the area and I bet Panik would agree with me too considering they've played in all 3 of the local leagues here. I'm sure they'd prefer to play circuit rules on Thursdays over KLOHR.

ROFL, I'm just messing with you, I will have school on Tues and Thurs. nights for part/most of the spring.

Yes KLOHR is social rules, good for kicking practice, and is an overall good time, but yea, I'd take a circuit league any day.

You're killin' me Kim, haha!

I was told that Ball Breakers stayed in that league because they continue to win. I assume they pry wouldn't leave that league as long as they continue to.

Anyways, I'll rest my case. I just want my Southside Thursdays back with circuit rules. Is that too much to ask?

Thursday night or Sunday afternoons would be my two choices. Weeknights will suck going across the water from Yorktown, but everyone does it on Wednesdays to come over to the Peninsula, so I cant say too much about that.

No Shoes- I agree with you here. From the perspective of someone who was done/tried to do this in Atlanta, just the labeling of competitive drives people away (even the competitive teams). Promote it as Kickball365- Virgina Beach Circuit League. There are enough of you on here to know that it will end up being competitive, but you need to populate it in order even play.

We're in our 3rd go round and targeted the Fall season as social. We've got (4) brand new teams and all (4) would have been good fits with our "Competitive League" the previous two seasons but chose not to play due to the labeling. Just promote it as a better brand of kickball and the rest will take care of itself. Good luck to VaBeach to get this going!
