DVD player problem

Postby Hellion » October 26th, 2007, 10:17 am

I have a DVD player issue, and thought someone here might be technologically savvy and could help. I figure making this a post is more efficient than asking you all at the bar tonight. ;-)

My mom says when she puts a movie in her DVD player, after she hits play it starts, then it goes to a blue screen, then after a few seconds it shows the picture again, etc. I think she can hear the sound while this happens. It has happened with several DVDs (all from the library) but notably NOT with her workout DVD. She doesn't know what's wrong. Neither do I, I've never heard of this. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the DVD player being hooked up through her VCR, which is dual-deck, and it's hooked into the deck that recently went kaput. But I don't understand why movies mess up but workout videos don't, and I'm also wondering if she's done something to her settings on things that play in "Chapter" mode.

Anyway, if anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it.

If sound is still playing but the picture turns blue it could be something wrong with your A/V cables.

Movie DVDs are usually highly compressed so your wires carry a heavier load of decompressed information. That might explain the differences between the movie dvd and the workout dvd - since work out dvds don't usually have very much on them and need less compression if any at all.

Don't know if that made sense. Cheap easy way to check is to use another set of A/V Cables from another piece of equipment and plug those in to check it out.

Thanks! I'll tell her to try new cables. Or, more likely, I'll try doing it for her at Thanksgiving. lol
