Yeah, you clearly haven't been playing kickball too long. That was about the biggest turnout I've ever seen at a MSP for Shore or Southside. Last year the Shore party had 20 people drinking off of three kegs until the Southside party crashed it after our two kegs got kicked at 10pm.

It was about the same number of people...maybe a few less. But it was a baaaaad idea to have it after Wine Fest. Half the party was blackout drunk already.

Kate wrote:haha half the party is a little high! it wasnt half! haha it was jsut the most obnoxious ones. most people just took a step back drank free beer and watched the show. i guess the shows name was "how to circle dance by the blue balls".
not that many people went to wine fest just one team. and it wasnt the REAL winefest. this weekend is the real one.

xxxjboyxxx wrote:Well i guess we need to fix things....so this is what we need to start doing.....or propose to do. And just remember these are my thought, and are up for any suggestions....i like to play kickball.
Problem 1: Shirts.......Need to have a cut off date for teams to be fully registered so that all shirts are ordered in time before the 1st game.....and have a captains meeting before the 1st game and give them all the shirts. Once we have a league that is consistent in playing each season this problem will begin to slowly go away. Shoot....i don't even have everyone's shirt on my team for this season. The longer you exted the registration......the longer you don't get your shirt...it makes sense to me. And teams need to hand out uniforms before games start incase there is a sizing shipping issue.
Problem 2: Not enough Balls....i totally agree....this league is so competitivie that we abuse balls....if they last for 2 games...it has served it's purpose...but to last for a season....no way. the quality of the balls are inferior to others. I've heard they are fixing that problem, but you play with the ball that they are using. We need to ordre more balls....and maybe we have to up the registration fee a feew dollars, so that each team can have 2 balls of their own at the beginning of the season, in addition to the game balls that are providided for the league....and also buy additional balls with the seasons budget....if we don't use them all then just roll them over to the following season.SURPLUS....let's start building a surplus of balls for this league. I love the competitive nature of this league...it's a dog eat dog world out their for us. I wouldn't be playing in the Shore Division if it wasn't. I can tell the weak teams are getting better, and the good teams are becoming ever greater.Balls should be provided by the league and kept in control by a representative at all times, and marked/spray painted to keep track of balls. Also Ball should be provided at games on game days, not distributed to each team, then you put responsibility on teams to keep bringing the ball. You just cant trust that to happen. What should happen is, i dunno who it is, to ask the city if they can supply a supply box at the field or either we can so as all supplies bases and all are there with access given to only a few individuals
Problem 3: Refs........i don't know.......you do what you can do....any suggestions? This is something that you cant control and everyone needs to be aware of that, these individuals dont get paid but are volunteering to help the league move along night by night, oh well they make bad calls, it keeps games competitive, heck baseball has been doing this for decades. Also CAPTAINS need to argue calls only, i really think that this has gotten out of hand over time.
Problem 4: Schedule before the season start.....i usually make the schedule each season, except for this one...i was away helping Texas with the Hurricane......the schedule is quick fix....if i have a cutoff date for registration....then the schedule is done with a few minutes....enter the team names and you're done.....easy.....but if somone is telling you that there might be one or two more teams to still sign-up till the day before the games start.....then i can't put out a schedule for everyone to evaluate......and i've done a really good job with the schedule this past couple of season....we have all gotten our money's worth. Every week you played a game or 2. And remeber that these decisions are not made by me...if they were we would be having these problems.....or maybe you will...who knows.IMO the schedule should be done way before the season is even being put together, yeah you might not know how many teams you have but way the options, put it in an excel spreadsheet, it can be done flawlessly in more than ample time.
Problem 5: Sponsor Bar.......a bar is a bar is a bar.......i don't think it's a problem. I can think of better bars we can go to, but that again is my opinion. Baxsters has been our sponsor for the past couple years.....they've kinda built a relationship with us....it might not be the best, but again a bar is just a bar....the people who go there is what makes a bar anyway...and i wouldn't want to be there without any of my fellow kickballers. As long as theyre supporting the league that all that matters, something is always better than nothing, especially nowadays
Problem 6: Etiquette on the fields....respect others.....that's what it all comes down to.I have experienced this on a personal level and i highly agree. Give encouragement out on the field towards the other teams, its the best classiest way to shit talk IMO. Plus people like hearing "hey nice kick!" or "dude sick pitch". I give as much encouragement as i can every game, people have heard me and i know they appreciate it.

The problem would be solved if we set a cutoff date for registration.....that is the only solution.

I emailed Kelly about buying a lot of 20 Mikasa balls and selling them at the fields.
