Blizzard Results - Week 1

Washington, DC

Postby Festa » January 25th, 2010, 8:16 am

Results:
BSC 4, CTI 0
Dreaming 1, Yukon Hoes 0
Dreaming 5, Strikers 1

- the BSC/CTI game was quite tamer than I thought it would be.
- The Field BSC/CTI game was played on was muddier than the other field.
- The weather wasn't that bad. But granted it was in the 40s. Once you ran around, you were fine.
- BSC and CTI were noticeably absent at the bar. 5 teams in the division, and only 3 showed up.
- Strikers were the last team at the bar, but the first to start playing flipcup.
- With only 3 teams at the bar, there were no official flipcup matches, but Strikers did beat up on the Dreaming/Yukon mixed team 8-2. The rest of the night was mixed teams vs. mixed teams.

Dreaming ? (I lost count) Strikers 1

Dreaming over Hoes 1-0 (this game... to quote Herb Brooks... looked like "Two Monkeys trying to hump a football." There were no bunts, no plays. Just kick and catch, rinse and repeat)
Dreaming over Strikers 5-1, i think. I dont know, no one really bunted so I should've brought a lawn chair to sit at the plate.

Did anyone else notice the glaring omission of a "safety base" at 1st? Yeah, we need to fix that next week.

Yes, we noticed. Donnie brought the equipment, and then had to leave for his soccer game, so we couldn't grab a spare from his car. This does need fixed.

I was hoping to get to at least play, with no one bunting, it makes homeplate seem lame. I had a great view of the OF looking confused.

There were a few bunts.. but all were too far away from you. Next week, we figure out where to put everyone.

No, you should have just told him to take them off. I don't think it affected the game, and I mainly wanted to just talk smack to them, but they are illegal, and BSC should know better.

Next time they play us, if he wants to keep his hands warm we will only approve the use of mittens.

I figured some rules needed to be bent since we're in the middle of winter. But I really should've looked to see whether his gloves had a grip on them.

We officially allowed gloves in Recess this season provided that they do not leave a residue. Receivers gloves = okay. Pine tar gloves = not okay. I would have had real problems pitching yesterday without them.

That's fine if it's already established that they're ok. Nobody on our team had gloves on, and nobody else on his team had gloves on. The least Festa could have done was to stop the game, get everyone's attention, and publicly call Joe a wuss, then resume the game. :-)

I heard it was about as warm as the scrimmage we had in NYC.

Temp was in the low 40's, I think, but overcast and wet. It wasn't terribly comfortable, but not terribly uncomfortable, either. It was definitely considerably more hospitable than it was looking like it'd be about a month ago.

I want to say it was 47. But the fields were wet, and one was very muddy. That field's ball was brown by the end of the game.

I guess not.

Biased Media's Blizzard Power Poll

#1 Ballers and Shot Callers (1-0) - They didn't run the score up as much as we thought they would, but their defense was solid. If CTI didn't score on them, I doubt anyone will.

#2 Dreaming of a White Kickmas (2-0) - It was a successful double header for this group. The were also ranked dead-last in our preseason predictions. But then again I had no idea who was on their team. I recognize one or two of them now. Do I think they're really the #2 team? No. But this is a Power Poll, and right now, they're hot.

#3 Cold Test-icicles (0-1) - Rough day for CTI. First they got to play in a mud-put, second they got to start their season off against BSC. I imagine they will get better as the season goes on. I'm wondering if JellyDogg and JohnnyBlaze are satisfied that they held BSC to 5.

#4 Yukon Hoes (0-1) - This team has potential, but the didn't show much of it in their 0-1 loss to Dreaming. Once they shake off their rust, they should be fine.

#5 Strikers (0-1) - Wow. We were wondering if there was going to be a team of newbies this season. This one is it. We'll see if Pittsburgher and Festa can help them learn the game in time to turn this ship around.

We held them to 4 (and held them scoreless in 4 of the 5 innings, so that's not bad).

I guess the members of BSC playing with M2S will just have to represent down there.
