I Really Have to Defend Myself?

Ft. Lauderdale, FL

Postby Kickin » March 12th, 2010, 1:13 pm

I am the captain of the oldest team in the most prestegious kickball league in the nation. I've won 3 championships in said league and have NEVER faced the scrutiny that I read on these boards presently.

As far as the "JKI v FL" forum, Casey is correct. We most certainly have respect for one another and remain friends off the field but I think this will be a heated rivalry on the field. We have the utmost respect for them and glad we have another competitive team in the league. That being said, I did add Dp to the end of the lineup before it flipped over and he wasn't on the lineup, just as if he came late to the game. Was it cheap? Yep, it was. Why did I do it? An inning earlier we had 1st and 3rd w Kim up and Ant behind her. Kim bunted a ball that went just foul but would have loaded the bases with one out. The next pitch was a one hop BEFORE the plate that she fouled off-totally clean. With three fouls Casey threw a pitch that short hopped Kim AFTER the plate and was a laser not allowing Kim to get out of the way. In my team's opinion CLEARLY INTENTIONAL. Casey afterword stated that he was just trying to throw a one hop and that it wasn't intentional. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe his adrenalin took over. At the time there wasn't a question in anyone's mind that the pitch was purposeful. In the FAQ it states that if the pitch is believed to be intentionally thrown at someone to induce a foul it should be called a ball. I would have argued this but I didn't print out the FAQ. After the game speaking with the home plate ref he also believed it to be intentional, much like my entire team and most of their players. Again, there's no hard feelings on this. I did what I had to do just like they did. Even.

As far as last night goes with Balls Deep, there's absolutely NOTHING to complain about. Dana, my best girl was not supposed to be there but when her high school game was cancelled (coaching not playing, POW) she was trying to make the game. I waited to hand in the lineup but when we started she wasn't there. I handed the lineup over and said "I may just add her to the bottom when she comes." When she arrived and JMart asked me if I was added her to the bottom I said "No, not yet". When a player comes late it is entirely up to the cap whether they want to add that player to the bottom or sit them out. I can decide this any time I want. You may not like it but I don't like the fact that teams sit 3-4 of their players when we play them while I have a lineup of 18. That's your choice and it's legal just as my actions were. I was leaning toward inserting her anyway just in case we got in to KC. Worked out for us just as shortening your lineup has worked out for you guys in the past.

As for a rule in 2010 clarifying things? Not happening. In the championship MK and I made an agreement not to add anyone to the bottom. Simple fix. But if my best girl was coming late you've gotta do what's best for the team.

I sincerely like and respect Balls Deep and I'm actually playing with them for Riptide (unless I've been given my release). I just felt I needed to defend myself.

Not sure who you are referring to on our team as to thinking that Casey threw intentionally at her, but the thought of him doing so never entered my mind; and I could never see him doing so. Also, I never heard anyone on our team say that. Just saying...

I don't need to name names but let's just say you hear a lot when your stationed over near the other teams sidelines (1B) and when you coach bases. In any case, it's in the past.

First off kickin...in the end this all kickball...and all hard feelings are left at the field (well on the boards too)

but...we have always played every single guy who can make it as well..you know that. we normally have 18 or 19 players. I dont know a team out there that plays with more than 4 or 5 girls in tourney games (except maybe jki in past seasons). last night sucked for us too b/c we had so many guys missing...but certainly not intentional. regardless, i just think playing with a smaller lineup is different than changing the lineup during the game. And I understand it was legal. I just can guaranty that we will be having a couple people arrive late from now on for every game.

I think that is probably the most truthful statement you have ever made on this message board.

The debate about shorter line ups is in the past. It is what it is. 12 is ridiculous. 15/16 is fair. 18 or more is fucking dumb and its wakas fault for making teams have more players than outs in a game

Not sure who you are referring to on our team as to thinking that Casey threw intentionally at her, but the thought of him doing so never entered my mind; and I could never see him doing so. Also, I never heard anyone on our team say that. Just saying...

So the question is as to whether a pitcher threw a pitch with intent to hit the kicker and generate a 4th foul?

I think this is a fair tactic. It's perfectly within the rules and it's not physically dangerous.

12 man rosters, one-hop fouls, adding a player to the bottom of the line up... all in a sport where walking a girl to get to a guy is considered perfectly ok (most if not all softball leagues have rules against this). This all sounds real silly.

I've been thinking the same thing throughout this whole argument. I've actually done that move a couple times before when pitching. Whether it was intentional or not the kicker should know to get out of the way. Fair tactic in my book. It's just like leaving a base early to get the out or dropping a ball on purpose for a double play.

if you cant get out of the way of a pitch (whether thrown at your head or your feet) then you should do one of two things...

1- dont drink too much during the games that are important, if you cant handle your liquor.
2- get into shape
3- make sure you get a better job so you can afford to pay attention.
4- stop smoking weed
5- Get a clue

any and all of the above will help with that situation.
REMEMBER...this is a kickball being thrown at you, not a baseball, not a softball, and its not a dart..its a bid red round ball..very visible even at night

Interesting how 2 things got turned into 5. Can I choose which 2 I can choose from.
"If your life revolves that much around kickball, then you've got issues."
The Urban Dictionary's definition of Kickball - "Kickball is a game of passion, of tears, of blood. It is the single greatest game ever conceived, besting even that of a good game of dodgeball."
