FL Beach Mock Draft

A few of my players and I were hangin' out by the pool and drinking some beers when the discussion was brought up about who we would draft and in what rounds if there was a draft in Beach. It was a really fun discussion, so I figured, why not hold an actual mock draft on the message boards? Plus the boards are really boring right now so I thought this would spark some interest.

Rules:
-The draft will consists of 6-8 teams depending on how many people would like to be mock captains.
-Each mock captain will have 12 hours to make their selection on the message board until a player is selected for him or her.
-Each mock captain will have to select him or herself in a predetermined round by all other captains. (For instance, if Matt Kelly is a capatain and we all agree he should go in the first round, he would have to select himself in the first round.)
-The draft will be a snake draft just like fantasy football with each captain's draft slot being randomly selected.
-We are only drafting a starting lineup (That means each team must select seven guys and four girls)
-You can draft any player in any round (You can draft all girls in the first four rounds if you would like or draft all catchers if you want)
-I will try and provide a league roster from beach so we can cross people off once they are drafted and we all know who is available.
-We will have a vote on the message board about which captain drafted the best team (Vote will last a week)
-Winning captain receives a free shot of his or her choice from all the other captains that participate in the draft.
-The draft will begin once we have our eight captains and everyone is aware of the rules.

The first seven people that respond to the thread will be a mock captain and I will be the eighth. Please don't ask to be a mock captain unless you know the players extremely well in beach (You also have to be registered in Beach to participate as well) and let's try not to have multiple captains from the same actual beach teams.

Actually truth be told, I probably don't know enough about the ladies down there to be able to pick against other people. By the end of the draft I'd probably end up goind with random girl from Balls Deep or Riff Raff cause all the good girls I know of would be taken, or earlier on in the draft I'd end up taking a girl who's name I actually know over a chick on one of those teams who is better.

This is a great idea. I'd be a captain, but I wouldn't want to draft myself in any round. Is there a Gussack rule?

You would definitely get drafted Big J, especially since you would make a solid No. 2 pitcher and you are a good line drive kicker. That rule is put into place so you can be a mock captain.

If most players would rather not be mock captains, then I would be willing to step up and be one (Gussack-style

) for this.

Casey, this is a great topic/post and idea, and I'd like to take it a step further and say that once all 8 mock teams have been drafted, let's pick a day (probably a saturday) and have all 8 mock draft teams actually play each other in a 'mock' tournament.

Maybe each captain/team can throw $20 or something into the pot for the 'mock' tournament which could be used to buy a keg or maybe 2 for everyone to partake of afterwards?

Would teams be drafted for league play or tournament style teams? To me this would be a huge difference in how to make picks.

Tournament teams need 2 -3 solid pitchers , 2 catchers and 2 3rdbasemen that can hold down their postion and bunt/kick.

League play you only need 1 of each

The draft is for league play, not tournament style play and you are only drafting your starting 11 players.

Dave you can be a captain, but you would have to have the draft slot where you are supposed to be selected. So if the majority agrees that you are the third overall selection, you would have to have the third pick in the draft and you would have to select yourself in the first round.

And Kirk, you could still be a captain using the Gussack rule so you wouldn't have to draft yourself.

And yes Sean, you can participate as well.

Right now, the possible captains we have right now are:

Me (the smaller twin)
Dave Perry (Duh)
Jason Wolfrom (the larger twin)
Kevin (Meatballkevin)
Kirk (timberwolf)
Sean (the quiet one)

We need two more!

WTF??? I already made my first selection, bullshit. I don't want to be a captain anymore, but I think Bobby should be a captain, I think superstretch Simon should take the time out of his day and return to the boards to be the other captain and there is your 8.

Well I would do it, but like you said last night, I probably don't know enough names from kickball to be considered a captain... plus I'd like to see where I'd get drafted haha

Ya'll should draft your teams before Beach and then do a Fantasy Kickball league. Every drafted player reports their stats and scores are kept.
