Week 1 Power Ranking

Postby Trey it Up » January 16th, 2011, 11:51 pm

1. THE Situation - After dismantling Poles and Holes and Tiki, Situation is the clear favorite in the division. Veteran players at every position know how to win in tough games.

2. Panik Attack - After trailing the game for four innings against an undermanned Tiki Titans, the potent PA offense erupted for seven runs in one inning to put the game away. Against a very stingy Back In Black squad, Panik picked away offensively and scored just enough to pull out the win. New players at many key positions have effected the efficiency of Panik's defense, but their offense is stronger than ever.

3. Back in Black - Arguably the best defensive unit in the division, this team has excellent players at all the key spots. If the top of the order can find a way to get on, the offense should be able to do enough to pull out some wins.

4. Sloppy Seconds - Despite handing Emperor's Club a tie late in the game, Sloppy still deserves top consideration. Team Captain, Jon Reyes, will have his hands full trying to manage his maxed out roster. However, when this team is healthy and present, they can compete with anyone.

5. Tiki Titans - Starting out 0-2 is not the way this experienced crew envisioned. Missing multiple key infielders on a week where they faced two of the top teams in the division was not ideal. Tiki will have to get dedication from some of their key guys if they want to move up in the rankings.

6. Emperor's Club - An impressive tie against Sloppy vaults this wayward crew up a few spots from their preseason position. The new pieces to the puzzle are fitting in nicely. With experience, EC could compete with some of the top teams later in the season.

7. Poles and Holes - A rough start to the season saw Poles and Holes square off with the most experienced and most talented team in the field. Working in some new players will take time.

8. NautSoJager - The winners of the Toilet Bowl, NSJ solidified themselves as a legit threat to anyone that underestimates them.

9. Tundrafeet - The most fun team in the field could be heard laughing and cutting up clear across the tundra swamp that is better known as Azalea Little League Complex. They might not be able to compete with some of the top teams on the field, but they dominated everyone in flipcup later at the bar.

I thought we did a pretty good job of competing with one of the top teams in the division this afternoon. We played the number 4 team in the division where you have them ranked currently and you consider them a better squad than Tiki at this point in time with some big upside so I think that says a lot for us. I don't want to hear any complaints about maxed out rosters, I have 20 frickin people on my team (and no, that was not by choice)!!

PS, next time you guys get me a Shirley Temple make sure it has the cherries in it. I was pretty upset when I finished my drink and there were none in my glass.

Great stuff guys, hope everyone had a good time! Look forward to next week! Take 2 errors off and that could have easily been a tie game! We didn't play well and still did ok! Excited to see what we can do with some work together! Let's go!!!

Great job PA, trey mccoy and Dan pitching is a great combo!

Ok, Trey, just as I said in an earlier post, you are such a sandbagger and whiner. PA walked away with 2 wins against 2 solid teams, without several of your core players. Whine away.

Congrats PA! You guys played great defensively and looked good with your new players. Looking forward to playing you late in the season.

And for the record, I'm 1-1 against PA \:D/

How am I whining? PA moved up one spot after beating a team that was ranked ahead of us (even though they were missing a lot of players) and beating one team that was ranked behind us. That sounds fair to me. Maybe you can clarify why that is whining?

I think we'll win a lot of games this season. If my back didn't lock up on that kick by Eddie then it would of been a 2-1 game in the end possibly. Sucks getting old. ;(

FWIW, Sloppy has 17 players, which is tied for least amount of players in the division (Tiki and PNH also have 17. Everyone else has 18-22)

It was a damn good game, and I gotta give props to the VIPs for hanging in there and coming back.

I saw a lot of foul outs by some very experienced players on Sunday. I don't know if it was because the field conditions made the pitches really tough to kick or the long layover between Fall and Winter seasons.

Teh fields were in pretty bad shape. The field we played on had a mini mound right before home plate and two other fields I saw had a decent size slope from pitching mound to home plate.

Hopefully the refs step it up also. During our game with PA, the 1st and 3rd base refs were absolutely horrible. There were at least 2 calls that the head ref overturned and he even overturned one of his own calls. PA wins that game regardless but it's frustrating having things like that happen.

Unfortunately, pretty much all the competitive teams had double-headers this week, so there weren't many experienced refs available.

I thought the best call of the game was the "foul off" bunt that was called foul, then rolled fair. Our new guy stood there expecting it to be a foul since it was called foul (even though it rolled fair). Joey waits like ten seconds for it to slowly roll fair, picks it up, turns to the ref, and says, "It's a fair ball." Then tags our guy. Everyone on our sideline is laughing because we all know that the ref fucked up, and we all recognize that a play is dead once any ref yells "foul."

The ref ultimately calls it an out, then later admits that he fucked up twice in one play.

there was some absolutely HORRIBLE reffing at home plate during the EC/SS game!

lol j/k

i actually really like when kim refs because he's loud and clear and fair. i try to leave the camera running after each play for just a second longer because i can usually catch his call on video so when you're watching later you know what the call was.

That frustrated me as well when he reversed his own call. Never seen that happen before.

Another frustrating play was Dave’s bunt. He bunted down third and everyone watched the ball roll down third seeing if it would roll foul. It didn’t so we all figured he was safe. Then the head ref calls foul and states it can’t come back fair after at anytime it goes foul. I understood that but was frustrated he let the ball come to a stop and was watching the ball roll down third like everyone else before he made the call. It didn’t make any sense.

That ball was very foul. The only time it came fair was when it hit the cone. He shouldn't have waited so long to call the foul, but ultimately it was the right call. The calls at 1B were downright bad.

Unfortunately, our game got really cold and my fellow 'Footers had to keep warm with whatever beverage they had on hand. That may have contributed to the reffing deficiencies. Had I known I was gonna stick around for the whole game I would have reffed for you. Maybe next time.

yeah, that's kindof SOP for the t-footers... last year monica made these really awesome cookies and before i ate any i felt the need to ask if they had alcohol in them because, honestly, i wouldn't have been surprised if they did. they didn't, which is good for me because they were peanut butter birds nest cookies with little peanut butter M&M bird eggs in the middle. so good...

So the reffing was "horrible" because they missed one call and had to talk over a couple more before getting the right call? Sounds like you have a pretty high standard for reffing.

Every team in the division is experienced and somewhat competitive. I don't think reffing is going to be a big issue this season. But with that said, I don't think it's realistic to expect perfection.

Kim, you and the Jagers did an awesome job reffing our game.

Placing 8 people onto the team would of definetly maxed out my team. I still have 1 girl to sign up, and maybe 1 more guy.

oh, and the year that they made it past Yo Momma AND Crazy Kickers (the #9 and #3 seeds) after coming into the tournament with a regular season record of 0-10-1, only to lose to Frosty Balls in the semi-finals because they'd eaten about two hundred jello shooters over the last two games and just couldn't see straight enough to play any more. see, they didn't think they'd win the first game, let alone the second, so they started drinking early.

Great Poll Trey-We should at least be behind Tiki this season. I'm not sure who going to be coming to the games week in and week out. But when Jimmy and Tony are put into the line-up...we should be a decent team once again...i don't look forward to the freezing temperatures. The Wind is killer out there.

Using context clues, I am guessing Larry and Terri are on Back in Black? Any other folks we know on that squad?
