Week 4 Power Rankings

Postby Trey it Up » February 2nd, 2011, 3:16 pm

1. Panik Attack - A very impressive offensive display against Sloppy preceded the Game of the Week. There was no disputing whether reffing, an odd tilt to the world's axis, or any other controllable or uncontrollable force was to blame for Panik's second win over Situation in as many weeks.

2. The Situation - A less than impressive win over Tundrafeet, followed by a disheartening loss to Panik has many people wondering if Situation is ready for the top teams at the South Florida Kickball Open in two weeks.

3. Back in Black - After pulling out a nail-biter against Tiki, BiB throttled Emperor's Club--despite some boneheaded base running that cost them another 2-3 runs. If this team can ever get out of their own way offensively, they'll put a scare into the top two teams.

4. Poles N Holes - A light schedule so far has PNH with only one blemish on their record. After leaping up the Power Rankings the last few weeks, it's time to test where PNH truly stands. Next up: Panik Attack.

5. Emperor's Club - A 7-1 loss to the #3 team in the division is not going to prop you up in the Power Poll. That being said, EC was a few plays away from making that game interesting.

6. Tiki Titans - No doubt Tiki has played the toughest schedule of any team in the division so far--with all four of their games coming against the Top 4 teams. However, being winless halfway through the season has many people questioning whether Tiki's best days are long gone.

7. Sloppy Seconds - With match-ups against Tiki and Tundrafeet this week, we will start to solidify the rankings of some of the middle of the pack. SUPER BOWL PARTY at the Barcuses' house! Invite everyone you know!

8. NautSoJager - NSJ will really have an opportunity to prove themselves the next two weeks. They'll either step up and prove that Hampton kickball is legit, or they'll go 0-3 and confirm my initial prediction that Hampton is 2-3 years behind Virginia Beach's competitive kickball scene.

9. Tundrafeet - These dudes can't play kickball so great, but they all seem to eat lobster dinners each Sunday. What's up with that?

I'm not sure that using NSJ as a bellwether for Hampton kickball is particularly accurate. There's a reason that it's called NotSoJager and not Jagernauts....because well, it's not the Jagernauts. It's just a conglomeration of people who wanted to play Recess. While maybe half of the roster are Jager players there's really no way that NSJ should be considered a representative of the Peninsula division, especially considering that it does not have Jager's C, P, Ch combo.

Yeah, PA looked the way we all thought they would from the start of the season... sicknasty. The Sitch is a very good team, but even they looked a notch below PA. There is no question who the top team is in this division.

Sitch also likely would have scored more on Tundra had we played a full game, but we were happy keeping the game below mercy-rule while almost-scoring-a-run.

The first two innings of that BiB/EC was comical. I was simultaneously wondering how anyone got out and how anyone got on.

I also heard NoShoes shut Panik out.

The BiB/EC game was horrible. I don't think I cursed so much in my life. I hope we don't pull that stuff this week. I do believe the BiB/Situation game will be close though.

Yeah, it was pretty ugly. I did get my 2nd career strikeout of Joey though.

Not as an excuse, but we were missing half our roster due to various ski/snowboarding trips. Didn't have our top 2 catchers, 1 of our chargers, etc. Four of the players missing were some of our most reliable offensive players... We were so short handed with guys, that I played, despite the fact that I couldn't run on my ankle. I could still pitch pretty decently, but anyone who saw me try to hobble down the line knows I was hurtin'.

You were throwing pretty good though. Hated to call strike 3 on that Tiki guy to end the game, but I have no idea why he took that last pitch.

NSJ is not even close to Jagernauts. The C, P, Ch combo Kim is talking about is pretty beast but they've lost their Pitcher and Charger to jobs out of state. The Jagers still suffered from a competitive standpoint because they aren't there with their sole dream of being a FC champion or anything but having fun with their friends. They're a tight knit group friends first who managed to be competitive secondly. Hell, I think they've had 50/50 ratio guy girls for the majority of their time too. NSJ was formed just because a group of them wanted something to do between the fall and spring layover and since they didn't have enough players they took on whoever wanted to jump aboard without a competitive emphasis in mind.

I was mistaken. McCoy scored the inning I charged.

I got the first out:

McCoy got on bunting to Keith:

Then Eddie scored a perfect bunt. My approach to the ball was wrong (I thought it was going foul), but I doubt I could have made that play anyways.

Then this kick happened. I have no clue how that got dropped:

I thought we did the best for what we had though. Even with who we had it was a 0-0 game through three innings and then even after the fourth it was still close at a 3-1 game. In the end, I was proud of everyone's effort.

Brent is automatically benched this week for not sitting out this past week and letting his ankle get better!! :@

The game should have been 3-0 through three innings. Two of BiB's outs in the 1st inning were handed to EC. No excuse for getting out once you get on unless it's a force play.

Yeah we made a lot of base running mistakes. Not making excuses for our team, but we should have put up at least 3-5 more runs. Same with Tiki. We left the bases loaded once and I believe two runners in another inning.

We changed our kicking lineup up a bit and some things worked, some didn't.

Playing the Situation this week will tell us who we really are.

Well to our defense, it wasn't close because you guys were making plays, it was close because we were making mental mistakes (base running errors). We weren't having any difficulty getting on base, it was overrunning bases, not tagging up properly, not listening to base coaches that kept it close.

I do wish all the people you were missing would have been there though. I always want to play teams with their "A" squad.

I believe PnH deserves its number 4 ranking. A light schedule and a poor showing vs sitch (our first game together) aside we did play TIKI when they were most healthy and have had solid showings recently. This panik game will be a tough game for us as it would be anybody but I strongly believe we will play a strong, competitive game. Our focus and energy following the panik game is what I will concentrate on. We have to approach the double header as two seperated entities and stayed amped and focused against each team. Should we go 1-1 with a mostly competitve game vs panik I see no reason for us to drop any lower this week. Now onto sunday because games arent decided on paper, or blogs, or polls...
Yeah I was playing kickball before it was cool.

I meant on how bad we played. Stupid mistakes throughout the game.

You were throwing pretty good though. Hated to call strike 3 on that Tiki guy to end the game, but I have no idea why he took that last pitch.

He took the pitch because it bounced 5 feet over the plate.

Having said that - you never take a pitch with 2 strikes.

McCoy is pretty much sick at whatever he does. His versatility is pretty ridiculous at whatever position he's playing.

Thanks George! I do like playing everywhere.

I was acting as backstop and it most definitely wasn't 5 feet high. It was a close call though.

Well JJ is 6-5, plate was downhill 1 foot from the mound - ball was waist high - your distance dowhill might have dropped it another foot of perspective -

could have been 5 feet :)

If the ball was waist high on JJ, it was at least 4 feet.

It might of been high but high strikes were being called the whole game honestly.

Yeah, I do my best to be consistent. That pitch was a strike in the first inning, so it's going to be called a strike in the 5th inning. And it was the same for both teams.

5 feet in the air? Really? I must've really blown that one if it was at his shoulders...
