those two games against you guys were some of the most fun I've ever had playing, especially the 2nd one. the whole squad was painting that 3rd baseline all day

The end of the first game was crazy, too. Would have loved to tie it and see what happend in the fifth.

My thoughts on the tourney overall, since I haven't given them are these-

Circuit is more fun. Fields were really nice. Sofa and BC played really well as did Fosters until the semi game. AKT was playing flawless until the hour break and came out of it in a funk and fell apart. The guy running the tourney kicked ass and ran a great event. After party had amazing specials, but the UFC fight didnt do us any favors.

Learned a lot from watching the final, about sticking to your offensive gameplan regardless of an early deficit. If we had done that in our second Brew Crew game it may have been closer. I think the tourney experience was the advantage THA had, as all the position players matched up well, nobody was making plays the other team wasn't making. But THA had the experience to remain poised and calm and close it out like vets.

It was nice to meet a lot of you, and it was nice to see those of you I know again. Looking forward to more of these events down the road.

Also the guys from WR were a great group. They remind me of the Valley Girls of 08, just a big old traveling party machine who loves playing kickball.

i agree about the after party, i prefer more casual places where the kickballers are kinda in their own area. i want to talk to people about everything, not try and scream above the loud music and tons of other people.

like i said before, if you're gonna go down 4-0, it better be in the first. we didn't panic and knew we had time to chip away. also, with the circuit, the game is more wide open and you can kick away and score.

(And I'm still marveling at that kickass catch your left fielder pulled at the end of our game....I don't always like be robbed of home runs, but when I am, I prefer it to be due to a kickass catch).

Good games all around, good time all around. And here's hoping we can get a few more SoCal teams for next year's tourney!

How is your teammate doing? Sorry for being a dick when he got injured sliding into 2nd base.

Who cares that loser took a run at our first baseman and didn't think he did anything wrong.

Javi - teammate is fine after the play at 2nd, all good there;

Lightsout - I can't disagree with you. I'm still not exactly sure what the story with that was; I need to find out what was going through my team member's brain when he pulled that stunt. Brainfart, stumble, deliberate? I really have no idea, and I'm still miffed at my guy for it. Just glad that nobody got hurt with that one.

My impressions...

Thursday night I met No Shoes at the Draft. He was super nice but I quickly learned that he was a shit talker. GOOD TIMES!

Friday it took us 2 hours to get from burbank to long beach. I ran into Zak, Cisco, Speedy and his wife and 2 others at Hole Mole. We all went to the bar near the hotel and had a great time.

I LOVED how the fields were already set up when we got there. PLUS unless the games went over an hour (it happened to us twice) the games started on time all day.

Game #1. Fosters vs Whiskey Richards. We took an early lead then they got the lead on us in the middle of our game. Fosters werent fazed so we started line drive kicking everything! We quickly realized that unlike WAKA which is defensive oriented. The Circuit is offensive oriented. So we didnt trip on errors and dropped balls. So we got the lead back on WR and never looked back. But they had some really good players. They just need to get more offense. We won 8-6.

Game #2. Megatron. We mercy ruled them.

Game #3. Brew Crew on field 3. This was my first time playing against them. I heard some stuff about them from lots of people and they were all right. They seem like an angry team and I didnt like how some of their players talked to eachother, but it works for them! They are all fast, in great shape and their chemistry is great. We had the second round of pool play off so i got a chance to see them play a bit nd their girls are all solid. My team got annoyed by Brew Crew cause they stalled the game to the lest second. They kept asking us to confirm who the kickers were every single time and even the head ump gave them a "warning" but i doubt they would have done anything. Either way, they beat us soundly and didnt give our offense a chance to do shit. I got a bit chippy with their crasher but heat of the moment, you know. And we really didnt appreciate the whole "YOU GUYS KNOW THE HEAD UMP FROM STUDIO!" No we dont. We know Manfredi who was umping field #2.
Brew Crew won 5-3

Game #3. AKT. We all know each other. Foster won 4-0

1st round elimination. Wake and Bake. We won 11-6. I was shamed by their team because one of their players broke his ankle sliding into 2nd base, yet he over slid it so while he was slithering around in pain i tossed the ball to a girl and yelled "TAG HIM FOR THE OUT!"
HEY ITS THE PLAYOFFS! if i get injured and called out for over running the plate, it is what it is.

Semi final vs Sofa King. I really felt like this was one of thee worst games I have ever played. Not that it would have mattered because we only scored 2 runs. But I am really hard on myself and when you are getting your ass beat and watching them have the best time of their loves, self pity goes high.

Definitely our MVP's are Tyler Foster and Jacky Torres. Everybody played well on both sides of the ball. It wasnt til Sofa King that our moods went down. I think we beat who we should have beaten and lost to who we should have lost to.

The general consensus, and this is 100% is that we all like the circuit ball and rules better then what we have here. It was shocking and disappointing to see an east coast all star team come over here and win outright and it hurts our cred, but we all got better cause of it. There were some shady calls here and there, but IMO, every ump sucks ass anyways and nobody got an advantage either way. There were only 2 injuries all day, none on my team or any of my friends' teams which was great.

The fields sucked but the weather was absolutely perfect. Of course the winds kicked in at critical moments of alot of our games. If you played on field 4, you probably got a home run from Field 3 kicked to you during your game.

Field 3 had a mud pit right next to home plate and apparently I was the only person all day to kick the ball into it. Intentional foul, btw.

Great day had by all.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I think part of the reason we were able to do so well as a team was because we all play against each other normally... nobody wanted to be the one to have a bad tournament or we'd never hear the end of it.

I was really impressed with your squad coming out on fire against us in the finals. Both our games easily could have gone the other way. Your pitcher (Dave, i think? I'm so bad with names) had some sicknasty stuff, even throwing directly into that gusting wind. I was also impressed with the caliber of teams you have to regularly beat to stay on top in SoCal. Definitely no easy task.

I look forward to seeing your squad in Vegas (if you can't get out to the east coast before then).

Nominal captain-ish type of thing. This is my first WAKA season with this team in Long Beach, so I'm mostly just a player who happened to be the one who facilitated our involvement in the tourney. But, as some of the SoCal players will (hopefully) attest to, I'm trying to cultivate my rep as a guy who won't turn down a game of kickball. Thus, a lot of the players on other teams in the tourney are teammates in other leagues. And I'm also a fan of winning and losing by merit, skill, and luck, NOT by who can get more hopping-mad and yelly on the field. (Esp. when people are arguing wrong rules...! Gads that was a hoot.)

Oh - and I've got a pretty good slew of pics from the final game between 3HA and SKG. I'll get 'em run through the digital works and submitted to Stevin in the LBC, but is there a decent place here in the 365 world for pic postings?

Yeah, Dave or Binns is our pitcher. He has great stuff, but i think the thick grass and wind hurt him a bit. If I had to make one excuse, it would be that he is even better than he was on Saturday, battling the wind, grass, and the strikezone. Never seen his pitching handled so adeptly as you guys did.

He was threatening to bring his lawnmower out to carve out a pitching strip to get more speed on the ball.

Dematas made a huge in game veteran adjustment. To me, he had nothing on his pitches in the first two innings on the mound and it was due to the wind. He went to just throwing with speed and no spin late in the game and it really helped.

next year when you cali guys come out to the vb tourney, you can totally crash at our place. might even borrow the pirate's* party bus to pick you up from the airport. ;)

* noshoes' brother, eric, aka the pirate, lays carpet for a living and drives around a giant van. he just got a new one, it even has seats. the old one we'd throw a couch in the back and ride around all border jumper style.

That was me. My first circuit foul out. :@ I was trying to kick to left field on the first pitch. Co-captain C-Rab suggested I kick to right field, and I couldn't hit the ball squarely enough. Righties with speed and movement have always given me trouble kicking to right field on. :(

Follow up info - turns out my teammate is a little worse off than I originally thought. Went to the doc over the weekend, and looks like it may be a potential LCL tear after finding that darn pothole before second base. Still can't condone/understand the play against SKG at first, but damn - I hate to see ANYBODY injured on the field.

That is exactly what I did, pitching into the wind isn't much fun, I like kicking into the wind though :-)

I kinda prefer kicking with the wind as opposed to into it...but that is just me. As far as pitching the wind definitely killed any velocity but we did what we had too.

Max - I am taking you up on that strike you owe me. It better be a called third strike just that one should have been #-o

It would have only been strike 2. Had 2 fouls and it was tough a pitch that is why I took it. Thought it would have been 2-2-2 after that pitch.

That was me. My first circuit foul out. :@ I was trying to kick to left field on the first pitch. Co-captain C-Rab suggested I kick to right field, and I couldn't hit the ball squarely enough. Righties with speed and movement have always given me trouble kicking to right field on. :(

Glad to be of service. :hai: Definitely not one of my better days overall and field 1 is definitely my Goliath. I thought everyone on 3HA were great people and those bunts were precision. It was really impressive. I had a great time playing you guys(and girls) twice and I look forward to playing your individual teams.

I'm not sure it's proper form to make cheap puns on one's own name. You've been hanging around me too long.

I'd really hate to face you on one of your "better" days, then. Great playing against you and getting a chance to talk nerdy kickball stuff at the pool. I hope you guys can rally some kind of squad together for NYC.
