*The game was tied 1-1 after regulation, but Sofa King scored six in the extra inning to blow it open. I know that Max was late to the game and a few people were out, but needless to say, that was a surprising score.
**Ending with a player on Pirates getting kicked out in the bottom of the sixth. Stay classy, guy...

We play in Pasadena (CA Crown), but this season we're having the very first "cross-town rivalry" game. Winners from both divisions will face off for the City Section Finals. We've already won our division, we're just awaiting the winner of Sofa & Foster Kids. The game will be held in Pasadena on the 17th of this month.

I was the 3rd base ump, so I can jump in here. Before the game, the head ump had told both captains that was being extra vigilant about not having players from either team argue calls or get involved in bench jockeying. (We knew it was going to be an intense game with two teams that can get feisty at times, so thought it was best to lay the ground rules down early.)
Player from Pirates was doubled off first on a line drive in the 6th inning (leading to the second out). There was some contact with the 1B from SKG during the play, which led to some staring and words being exchanged. Both teams milled around for a little bit, before the head ump came out make sure the captains cleared everyone away. About 30 seconds after everything had died down, the guy from Pirates who was doubled off lets loose with a yell of "P-U-S-S-Y!" either at the SKG 1B or the head ump (couldn't tell what).
Boom. He was gone. He tried to hang out on the bleachers but was told he had to leave the park. Then he said he wouldn't leave, so he was given 60 seconds to leave or his team was forfeiting. He left after that.
I should point out that up until that point, I hadn't noticed any problems with either team. It was just a weird moment at the end of the game. (Also, that guy on Pirates is someone who has been problems before in terms of getting into with other players and bench jockeying the umps if a call doesn't go their way.)
As for the finals: I think most people would have picked a Foster Kids/SKG rematch in the finals (SKG won 1-0 in the Cross-Conference Week earlier this season). Each team was the No. 1 seed in their conference going in. I think the conventional wisdom was that TFK vs. AKT would be very close, and it was, but that TFK would find a way to manufacture something. Also, their crasher (Tyler Foster) apparently was playing out of his mind on Monday night. I believe Javy was hurt and not crashing; don't know if he'll be healthy on Monday and how that might impact things.

Should be a great game and low scoreing at that.
As for last Monday, yeah LA traffic ate our lineup alive and I had to re-do the lineup on the 101/405 interchange. It didn't work out so well as we shorthanded and R&T played great to start the game. Our defense held and we had me (kicking last) then the top of our order coming up in KC so it wasn't much of a contest from there.
As for the ejection, I think it started with their kicker getting into it with our catcher. Then when the double play was recorded, all hope was dashed and tempers flared.

Only girl that dives into every base head first on the gnarliest dirt fields in CA.

Sorry Flades, she is out of town in NYC. It'll have to wait for SKG's trip to NYC or maybe a podcast guest?

how do the Foster Kids match up to SKG circuit team? any travelling potential here?

fightonusc wrote:FYI - the final was 3-2 in seven innings. Like Max said, just a ridiculously tight game. SKG used a two-out line drive to score a run in the top half of OT; Foster Kids had (I believe) a two-out line drive single to score the winning run from second.
We shot some footage, and even though we're slogging through some technical issues and editing, we should have a full game production (with commentary) up within the next week or so. Hopefully, people don't look at the result as see this as any knock against SKG - this was all about The Foster Kids playing to the best of their abilities, and I think this shows the depth within the Studio Division.

Foster's only won because Javy was injured and couldn't play. If they had him we would have won easily. Addition by subtraction for sure.
