I hope my recap of how the final game went down is accurate.

Seemed dead on to me. I hate that the call impacted the game at all, but it was the right call. I just stayed away from the argument of it, I had already had my daily share of arguing from the prior game! ;)

If Crandall kicked the ball, and he was the one who missed first, why didn't Dwyer's run count?

Here's the situation:

Bottom of 1st inng. 2-1 IB. OITP has 2 outs. Dwyer is on base.

From WAKA Rules:
10.09 A run scores when a runner touches home plate before the third out is made, EXCEPT that no run can score when the third out is made during a force play situation, or when the kicker is put out before touching first base.

Crandall missed first before Dywer scored. A very unfortunate turn of events. The 3rd base ref said that he missed 3rd base too.

On a missed base situtation, the out is supposed to be scored at the end of the play.

I can't find it at the moment in the WAKA rules, but it was ruled that the missed plate became a force-out.

It's in the WAKA Rules FAQs

Q: When a runner is called out after a play for missing a base (see Rule 14.02l) or failing to tag up (see Rule 14.02m), and that is the 3rd out of an inning, does the call nullify any runs that scored on the play?
A: These outs are applied as of the end of the play, therefore:

* On failed tag-ups: the run is nullified only if it was the scoring runner that failed to tag up.
* On missed bases: the run is nullified only if it was the scoring runner that missed a base, OR if the runner that missed the base was in a force situation compelling them to reach the missed base. [Example: if a kicker never touches first base, no runners on base may score (see Rule 10.09).]

From the WAKA Rules FAQ page, which every captain should have printed and in their bag along with the rules:

Q: When a runner is called out after a play for missing a base (see Rule 14.02l) or failing to tag up (see Rule 14.02m), and that is the 3rd out of an inning, does the call nullify any runs that scored on the play?

It's almost as if that rules FAQ... should really be in the RULES.

It is interesting that some things remain in the FAQ for more than one year when the obvious fix would be to just put it in the rulebook.

Wish we (OITP) had that game to do over. It was an unfortunate string of events (personally think that the team should have to protest the play and not the ref, but that is my opinion). iB would never have known that he didn't touch first, if that was in fact what happened. It doesn't matter anymore, but I think my player touched 1st base. A lot of things would have been different for us if we were up 3-2.

In the end the game was a lot closer than 5-2, but it was a good game and iB won. Congrats. Definitely a really good team.

Hoping that OITP gets a bid for Vegas.

I understand that it was an unfortunate event, and i not a call i like to make, but if either team has to point out the calls that need to be made, then the ref isn't doing their job.
