big up to Noelle for catching what might actually be the only video of me playing kickball, despite the fact that i've been playing since 2006.

aside: when i got up to kick we had runners on 2nd and 3rd, with 1 out and a kicker up after me. after the guy on 3rd got out, the girl dove back to 2nd and got tagged out, ending the inning. i did make it safely to 1st before she got out, though, so it totally counts!

April rocks, duh!

That being said. I think we were all doing our best to keep the ball away from Ant. He was gunning DOWN noobs all day. Plus, Regs has a tough pitch to deal with, as we all know.

No shoes - your bunt was foul. It never even got to the "gray area." I've seen tons of videos better showcasing your on base machinery.

There is a big case for April as the top bunter on JFK.

"Foul" therefore garbage.

On a side note, have you guys looked at the Friday night schedule? We don't play any of the top teams. Potential for 3 undefeated teams going into the tourney.

sadly for jfk (and luckily for the rest of the division) my playing with them was a one-off affair. i can't make it to the peninsula for weeknight games and only signed on for winter because the games were on saturday and b was already going that way so it was nbd to carpool with him and the pirate and will. and because freed asked really nicely.

Are you going to be putting your bunting skills to use on either of the Sunday leagues? (Sportsplex or Sunday Funday)

It rolled fair but it was still garbage.

I suggested the Sportsplex to her so that we could be team mates with Miguel again, perhaps even playing with Zach and Whitney, but we'll see.

Two nights may be more than enough for my old ass.

Justin, my team (Walk of Shame) plays Ballcrackers and Paddy's 2nd and 3rd weeks.

You guys will probably still remain undefeated, though. We haven't even figured out who will charge or pitch. Adam's not playing (injured again). Thank goodness we picked up Donald (fast black guy with huge muscles), who has been playing catcher for Thuderfeet. I just need to teach another guy how to charge or pitch and I'll feel a little more confident.

Yea I saw the schedule. We get to play No Shoes' team, but miss out on playing the combined Nucracker/Ballz Deep team and Sal's team. There is quite a bit of talent on both of those teams. It's too bad that we don't get to play in the regular season.

I lobbied to play all the upper level teams, but with 16 teams, I'm sure redoing the schedule was not in the cards.

i refuse to play atlantic division ever again. just not my speed. getting voted "biggest asshole in the division" after spending the entire season trying to make up for the fact that people hated us before we ever got there didn't make me feel all warm and cuddly either.

as for the sportsplex thing, bryan mentioned it the other day (last night). it's the first i've heard of it. after a couple unfortunate incidents involving team captains being incommunicative with who they did and didn't want on their team (see also: spring 2011 va southside and 2011 dc tourney), i made a policy never to sign up for a team without an express invite from the captain themselves. if anyone knows of a captain interested in picking up a stud bunter (me) to round out their team (and prevent forfeits), you know where i'll be (in my trailer).

My bad, I probably set you up there. The regular season is only 10 games so I expected to not play many of the teams.

What's the deal with the sportsplex league? There should be a good amount of teams because I'm hearing a lot about this league. What rules are they playing by?

Peninsula is a 16 team league with 10-12 games scheduled, so not every team plays each other. But it's not too hard (if you know your customers) to ensure the top teams play each other and the bottom teams play each other. Makes for a better experience for everyone involved.

I disagree. WAAR has a reputation for going above and beyond what it's loyal customers ask for. One time I asked WAAR to not implement ridiculous rules that are insulting to women and cater the game to the minority of their clientele base (the uncoordinated goofs that can't get on base unless the Catcher is hog-tied and the Pitcher has to pitch from CF). WAAR went above and beyond in what it gave me. I was provided a fantastic fictitious life written from a 16 y/o girl's perspective where I get to hang out with you nerds on the internet all the time, make no money, get supported by my promiscuous fiance, have no real friends, and masturbate all the time. I have to tell you, that's more than I've ever paid for!

Interesting rules. It looks to me like whoever has the best "underhand" pitcher will dominate this league. You start your at-kick with a count of 1 ball and 1 strike. Fouls count as strikes and that includes your third strike. So it seems to me that if you foul off two pitches during your at-kick, you've struck out.

Games should be real fast.

They probably strictly enforce underhand as well, not "low sidearm" like WAAR used to have. Having a pitcher like Vertical (Dan Shaw) or Troy (Flying V) would be a huge advantage definitely. The catcher is also "hog-tied", as Trey likes to call it, in this league.

"The catcher must stand 3 feet behind the kicker and cannot cross home plate until the ball is kicked."

To me that's a vague definition. They may find themselves having to further clarify this rule once the season starts. It seems pretty loose.

On a side note, I was really impressed with the amount of speed Vertical has on a pitch that is really close to underhand. In the semi-final game last weekend, he was throwing hard. Dude must be a bowler.

Yep. In some other thread I said something about how if he raised his delivery he might be able to generate even more speed and put some more bounce on it. I got the impression he has been bowling so long that is what he is really comfortable with.

Sports Plex league is completely different. It's much less organized, but you play on the Destroyer's turf field.

We played a charity tournament there with THIS squad. We toppled Crab Cakes in the semis and Sal's team in the finals and then had plenty of beer at the snack bar afterwards. Great time.

Thanks to both of you guys. I've been pitching for about a year now and I really don't know any other way. mtcoup, you are right, my delivery is a direct carryover from when I used to bowl. You'd think playing with JC for 4 seasons I would have picked up something by now.

Yep. In some other thread I said something about how if he raised his delivery he might be able to generate even more speed and put some more bounce on it. I got the impression he has been bowling so long that is what he is really comfortable with.

Thanks to both of you guys. I've been pitching for about a year now and I really don't know any other way. mtcoup, you are right, my delivery is a direct carryover from when I used to bowl. You'd think playing with JC for 4 seasons I would have picked up something by now.

YW man, you were throwing hard all season.

There is a big case for April as the top bunter on JFK.

"Foul" therefore garbage.

On a side note, have you guys looked at the Friday night schedule? We don't play any of the top teams. Potential for 3 undefeated teams going into the tourney.

Yeah that pisses me off as not only are Paddy's Pub and Sal's team two of the better teams in the league, also two of the most social teams out there. Lose-Lose all around.

yeah, it's really not that tough to just know your customer base and build in tiered play.

Thanks, I heard your league is going to max out this season. You should start another league. I know quite a few teams that play in a different league on the Peninsula that would love to have a well run, fun, and competitive league.
