Week 5 Predictions - Spring 2012

Postby bearFight » April 30th, 2012, 9:42 am

Well, it sucks that mother nature was a little too moist last week. I hope it was good for her. Let's hope she can keep it in her pants this week.

6:30 Games
Three Kicks Mafia (1-2) vs. Pitches be Crazy (1-2)
I was horribly wrong about Three Kicks Mafia. They're still pretty awful. A guaranteed two errors per inning on defense, and three people that can kick a ball, two of which are girls. Pitches be Crazy will destroy them if they can get a few people on base. Three Kicks will advance the runners through sheer stupidity.
Pitches be Crazy 6, Three Kicks Mafia 2

KINS (0-3) vs. Kick me Baby, One More Time (0-3)
This game could go either way. There's a little bit of experience on each team, combined with... limited talent? I just flipped a coin 9 times, KINS was heads and KMB1MT was tails.
KINS 6, KMB1MT 3

Derelicte My Balls (2-0-1) vs. My Couch Pulls Out (0-2-1)
Now that Scott has had two weeks to rest his liver and my guess is that My Couch Pulls Out (But I Don't) still doesn't know the rules, this should have a clear ending. However, with the talent I've witnessed on MCPO, one of these days they might give a good team a run for their money. Maybe it'll be this week?
DMB 8, MCPO 2

Sleeve Monsters (2-1) vs. Diesel Train (0-2-1)
Sleeve Monsters were so embarrassed by their loss to Brocery Bags that they were afraid to repeat against Blackout... they formed a human megazord and turned mother nature on so much that she decided to make the fields too moist for us. Interesting tactics, guys. This week should be one of the easier games they have, so have fun out there. Sorry Diesel Train, I've seen nothing to suggest you're up to this challenge yet. I even think Sleeve Monsters might score more than 5...
Sleeve Monsters 6, Diesel Train 0

7:15 Games
Scared Kickless (2-0-1) vs. Kick Tease (0-2-1)
Kick Tease has veterans, but not the veteran talent of SK. This won't be much of a contest, as long as SK can put a girl at first that's more reliable than any other first basemen in the league...
Scared Kickless 9, Kick Tease 0

Alive and Kickin' (1-2) vs. HOFNARs (2-0-1)
It appears that Jody didn't assemble anything remotely resembling his last team. That's fine, I'm a huge supporter of WAKA being all about fun. Go out there and give 110%, Jody. You'll still lose.
A&K 3, Hard-ons for no apparent reason 7

BLACKOUT (3-0) vs. O.F. (2-0-1)
This should be a good one. Since Sleeve Monsters were not only too scared to play BLACKOUT last week, but were too afraid to show their faces at Mulligan's... BLACKOUT is looking more like a team to be reckoned with. Feathers - I hope you're ready to get fucked. The entire "FUCK FEATHERS" facebook group will be in attendance for this game.
BLACKOUT 5, O.F. 3

Brocery Bags (2-0-1) vs. KIOS (2-1)
Scott's favorite team in the league against fist pump united. If Chuck chases butterflies in the outfield like normal, BB should be able to put up some runs. KIOS has the talent to surprise someone, I just can't predict it.
Brocery Bags 4, KIOS 2

I have a lot of different opinions this week. Should be interesting.

6:30 Games
3 Kicks over Pitches Be Crazy
Kick Me Baby over KINS
Derelicte over My Couch
Sleeve Monsters over Diesel Train

7:30 Games
SK over Kick Tease
HOFNARS over Alive & Kickin
O.F. over Blackout
Brocery Bags over KIOS

Well, BLACKOUT is fielding a skeleton crew this week, so we should be pretty well-prepared for O.F. It'll still be a good game, though. Obviously could go either way.

I'm the one that overestimated Three Kicks Mafia this season... learn from my mistakes!

KMB1MT and KINS is to me, again, a toss-up. Your opinion differs with 9 flips of a coin, not with me. It's really just those other two, and I'm potentially slightly biased.

Shut it, Olson. I did gamble, i had a 50/50 shot. Now all I can do is wait for the roll of the dice.

Jay told me last night that he'd be posting today trying to defend his team's honor after they put sprinklers all over the field last week so we couldn't play... but apparently he has nothing to say for himself. For shame, Sleeve Monsters. The least you could do is apologize for being pansies and not wanting to play us.

Well, in all honesty, I do need to apologize. Thinking that the game would be made up we just wanted to give you guys a few more weeks of practice (practice....you wanna talk about practice!!!)

And I know it know it was a rough week and all for you after you were scored on by a girl in soccer. (I must admit....it was a pretty sweet play)

However, hearing that the game wouldn't be made up did make me shed a tear. I know a lot of people want that game made up....especially since they pay good money to play kickball. $68 for most...and $82 for the newbies that didn't put in a henrico zip code.

Personally, I have heard multiple people from Sleeve Monsters, Pitches Be Crazy, Scared Kickless, and one other team(laura's team) express how they think we should have that game made up and then just have playoffs all in one day. Seems like there was a lot of frustration that we would just scrap a game. We need every game we can get especially since we only play roughly half the league anyway.

YOu get 9 regular season games scheduled at the beginning of the season. You're only guarenteed 8 and most sports leagues only give you 7.

Quit complaining

Technically those games could still be made up. If we have any more rainouts that final week will default to a make-up games and week 2 will be the one thats made up.

What's the big deal with making it up regardless of other rainouts? Every other season we've had playoffs on one day.

That's not true at all actually. The spring and fall seasons have had the exact same layout as this season for the past few years with 9 weeks being scheduled and the final thursday being used as the first round of playoffs and/or serving as a makeup game if there is more then one rainout.

I'd be happy to share previous seasons schedules as a reminder.

I'm not saying the other seasons didn't start with the same schedule. I just don't remember ever playing playoffs on two separte days. As far as I remember, the playoffs have always ended up being played on one Saturday... whether it was due to rainouts or it was planned that way doesn't matter. I just want to play what we pay for.

Why are the playoffs on two separate days? That's lame duck retarded! And Scott, instead of giving people the minimum of what they're allowed to get in games, how about giving them more games and more fun. Stop being a fun snatcher!!

Most WAKA leagues are only 8 weeks. I usually try and schedule an extra week on top of that for the leagues in Richmond as to give more games to the players. Obviously weather comes into play and has and effect on the way things play out. Most of the last few seasons have resulted in more then one rainout. If you recall, this past fall season indeed saw us have the first round of playoffs on a thursday night as was originally scheduled. Scheduling is not only made with one particular season in mind but it also has to take into account the other seasons that will be taking place during that year as well (i.e - summer, fall). There's needs to be adequate time for each league with enough time off in between to give people a few weeks of break.

This is not the first time this debate has arisen over this particular topic. The reason for scheduling 2 nights of playoffs is to maximize participation of teams in both the playoffs and the end of season festivities. I'm open to listening to people's suggestions and have always made that known. If I felt a majority of people would rather get another regular season game in as opposed to breaking the playoffs up then I would be willing to make that change. Keep in mind though that I also have to factor in the less competitive / more casual teams as well. In my experience we tend to get less participation by those teams in the playoffs when we just have them on the one day on saturday.

We're getting ahead of ourselves with this conversation anyway because if there's another rainout it won't matter.

Again, I have to factor in 3 seasons of scheduling. There are only so many weeks in the year. We tried scheduling longer seasons several years back and those leagues just dragged on for too long and people lost interest.

Also Scott, i'm 99% sure last Spring saw us have playoffs on the Thursday before. Brocery Bags played Robo-Feathers in a play-in game. Wheeeeeee.

Obviously Saturdays are tougher to get people to participate in WAKA. Beer, Bourbon and Barbecue happens to be the same day as WAKA playoff Saturday, and I already can name a few Brocery Bags that will be skipping playoffs. It's life. In any case, more games are more games. I'm pretty sure the same people are going to skip playoff Saturday whether they are involved or not, playing a full day of playoffs or a partial day of playoffs, etc. Skippers gonna skip. At the end of the day, the same 8 teams are going to move on to round 2.

Yes, you are open to listening.... I remember last spring when you asked us to "Ask our WAKA rep" when we questioned your players who weren't on your roster for playoffs... the response from our WAKA rep was "Go F*ck Yourself"...

so even if you are "open to listening"... not sure you're up for considering :P

Definitely liking the idea of getting in 9 since final thursday can still technically be used for the makeup at this point. League fees are steep especially for any of the past seasons that have been widdled down to 7 games.

That was a joke and you know it.

And I would never let any team, including my own, allow people not on their roster to play in any league game. I'm very strict on that point.

I'm committed, I'm on BLACKOUT. We'll be at the playoffs in force. Brocery Bags are a bit less committed. Their captain sent out an e-mail to his team with me thrown in asking who wanted to go to BB&B with him here, and I had to reply telling him he's a dumbass. Can't skip out with the ever-important number 1 spot in the power rankings...

Also... shit. Haven't seen a fight on the message board since early Fall 2011. LET'S DO THIS! FUCK THE LIGERS

On behalf of the entire Diesel Train team, we would like to play as many regular season games as possible. Since it is our first season and we are still figuring this game out, we would like as many regular season games as possible to get our shit straight.

In conclusion Make up Rain out, Crunch playoffs together

That is all

Yes. I lost an arm wrestling challenge to Jody 4 seasons ago not that is anyway relevant to the discussion. I have no shame in losing that particular contest to a guy that had to plow fields everyday growing up for chores because tractors hadn't been invented yet and walked 18 miles to school backwards up hills in the snow.

6 cup domination my ass. You got smoked every time we played clown and you know it. There's only one king of flip cup here and it certainly isnt you old man river.

And as far as arm strength. Ok you won, congrats. Arm wrestling was never my forte. You want to take this venture to the bench press and I'll happy to make you look like the feeble old man you are.

Proof is in the pic. You got smoked!! See how you're fumbling around to grab your 3rd cup, while I'm flipping mine. I beat you by at least 2 cups. The only thing I was plowing that day, was the way for seniors to start taking the flip cup titles from young Fun snatchers like you.

I don't need you to rally anyone. I've heard your concern and I will address it. The competitive teams like yours are always the ones that want to opt for more games and don't mind playing more games on the final saturday because those teams generally have no problem getting enough people to be there. My concern is for the other less competitive teams. They are usually the ones that are less likely to have enough people there for the saturday playoffs. I want to make sure they also have a chance to compete in the tournament and that's why I try to break the playoff schedule up. That and it makes for less time taken up and less refs we need to lock down for that day. I will talk to captains of the less competitive teams and get their opinions. If they would prefer to have another regular season game as well them I have no problems making the change. My goal is always to maximize participation for playoffs and end of season festivities for everyone, not just the teams at the top. If the other teams are in agreement then I'm all for making the change for the greater good.

The only thing I was plowing that day, was the way for seniors to start taking the flip cup titles from young Fun snatchers like you.

dude you won one rotation. you fail to mention the 10 other times we played that day when I smacked you around like a child (not to mention the countless other times you been beaten down by me in flip-cup). If you want to hold onto to that one instance then I'll give it you. I mean what else do you have to hold onto at your advanced age

It's not just me & Sleeve Monsters. Jody & Diesal Train are asking for it too.

Let's say that the "less competitive" teams play in the playoffs on Thursday and win... if they can't field a team on Saturday, then why would it matter to them if we play playoffs or a normal game on Thursday?

They get a game regardless, so let's play the regualar season game on Thursday...
