The Football Thread - 2009 Season

Postby Lost_Sage » May 1st, 2009, 12:54 pm

Hey, you never know ... Jenri might make a guest appearance to talk pigskin (the sport, the football team ... not the deadly flu), so we'll keep the new thread in here for now.

So ... thoughts? Let's start with some easy topics ... although, feel free to add your own.

1. Jets = Sanchez = the future?

2. Raiders = WTF? Are they the new Bengals of the draft?

3. Lions = At least Stafford has the bar set really low in year 1, he just has to win one game, and he's already done better than last year!

4. Pats = stockpiling draft picks. Are they right about this draft's weak pickings?

5. Broncos = maybe they did hire McDaniels for the headlines. Or is Cutler really just a chi-waa-waa?

6. Skins = Jason Campbell, see Jay Cutler, above, with bigger chip on shoulder, less of a mouth, and much weirder team owner.

I think the Jets needed to find their next QB through the draft and they made the right move.
6 years ago every Giants fan felt the same way about trying to get the next big QB. 5 years later they won a Super Bowl.
The Jets still need to improve in a few areas, but at least they have the franchise QB they were looking for.

1. Jets = Sanchez = the future? I think so, seems like a good solid kid with TONS of potential!

2. Raiders = WTF? Are they the new Bengals of the draft? Idiots for now, if they get a good coach, watch out.

3. Lions = At least Stafford has the bar set really low in year 1, he just has to win one game, and he's already done better than last year!

4. Pats = stockpiling draft picks. Are they right about this draft's weak pickings? Not as much as they are looking forward to an uncapped year next year! Dallas did the same, FYI, both chose 12 picks.

5. Broncos = maybe they did hire McDaniels for the headlines. Or is Cutler really just a chi-waa-waa? McDaniels is a idiot to.

6. Skins = Jason Campbell, see Jay Cutler, above, with bigger chip on shoulder, less of a mouth, and much weirder team owner. Man, as much as I don't like the Skins, this was a dumb move now knowing he has to be your QB this year and no clear replacement in sight!

I was thinking the Raiders were the new Jets of the draft...

I don't think the Jets have really given Kellen Clemons a good look. I think Sanchez can be a good pro, but I still think the same about Clemons. I'm not sure the Jets couldn't have gotten a better team value at another position.

How will Matt Cassell do this year? No juggernaut Pats WR's; instead, lowly KC. They do get to play the Raiders twice, so he has that going for him. :(

Clemens vs Sanchez should be a good training camp competition.

At least if Singletary has to discipline Crabtree, it'll make for an interesting YouTube video!

So where's the K365 Fantasy Football League? I only have 3 leagues this year and could use a fourth to make my way through not having the message board this winter

I live and die by how the Jets do every Sunday so it's probably easy for you to figure out that I've had a tough life. With that said I think the Sanchez pick was an absolute waste. They trade up to get this kid that played a great college career which in my eyes isn't impressive considering history (Leaf for chargers, Leinart for Cardinals). They had Brett Ratliff waiting in the wings who in 3 career NFL games, 10-15 snaps per game, went 29 of 43, 451 yards, three TDs, 0 interception. Granted they were only for 10-15 snaps but I'm impressed enough to not waste a draft pick! Who's gonna be the Jets #1 receiver now that Coles and Moss are gone Jerricho Cotchery? Everyone knows a great receiver can make a mediocre quarterback look great, they draft Crabtree and use the money they spent for trading up/the contract for Sanchez and offer Boldin a deal and you have 2 nasty young receivers to do damage in the secondary. I've said enough...

(Bump)

Hell of a season opener. Got screwed on the points line (I picked Pitt; I ducked into a UPS store to make all my picks before my train yesterday because I nearly forgot!), but not on the high drama.

Good thing I left Parker on the bench. (Have Gore and Jacobs going for me at the RB spot.) Opponent had Ward, Miller, and Reed.

I have Westbrook and Portis in my fantasy backfield. Both had shitty days.

I think Jim Zorn must not listen to the local media. The redskins win when Portis gets the ball more... so give him the ball!

So - I screwed up. I had a choice between Matt Shaub and Kyle Orton. I figured Orton vs Cleveland would be a better matchup than Shaub vs Tennessee. Figures that Shaub had an awesome day.

Go 49ers. Go Frank Gore (yep, he's on my fantasy team - back on track with a W this week).

That is all. Back to academic writing.

Did I. It was hilarious. My brother and I was watching at home. My brothers girlfriend had her head in his lap and when he made the catch, we both jumped up and cheered. It didn't go over well for him!
